Mosaic is a customized empathy curriculum for grades Pre-K3 through 12th

with the purpose of raising awareness of and fostering inclusion, empathy and

compassion within communities.

The PROCESS

Professional Development

• Ten hours of professional development is dedicated to

engaging leadership, faculty and staff in workshops

pertaining to identity and inclusive behavior.

• With Empathy as the theme, topics covered ranged from

cultural awareness, gender bias, inclusive language,

non-traditional families, race, ethics, and

socioeconomics.

Year One: Gaining Knowledge & Empathy

Lessons• Faculty were grouped by grade level and were responsible for creating

the theme and creating the lessons for the assigned module of their grade.

• The sixteen grade-level lessons had to incorporate literature, art, media, storytelling, and student presentations within the developmentally appropriate curriculum.

Year Two: Designing Mosaic

Pilot• With the creation of Mosaic for each grade complete, implementation of the

curriculum begins for the pilot year. Faculty received facilitation training and parents are engaged about the program in grade-level forums.

• At the end of the pilot year, the curriculum will be assessed and revised for year two.

Guardians• Inclusivity workshops no longer occur during the monthly professional

development meetings for faculty, instead monthly inclusivity workshops are offered to guardians.

Year Three:Implementation and Parent Engagement

K3-K Emotional Intelligence understanding kindness, appreciation, gratitude, empathy and compassion.
