IL TROVATOREVERDI

This Goya-inspired production of Met favourite Il Trovatore takes place against the backdrop of awar-torn Spain. Anna Netrebko stars as Leonora,the Verdi heroine who sacrifices her own life forthe love of the gypsy troubadour.

Verdi’s masterful Otello matchesShakespeare’s play in tragic intensity,with Aleksandrs Antonenko as thedoomed Otello and upcomingsoprano Sonya Yoncheva as hisinnocent wife and victim.

Truth and legend come together in this earlyWagner masterpiece. Today’s leadingWagnerian tenor, Johan Botha, takes on thetitle role of the young knight caught betweentrue love and passion. The Met’s own starMusic Director James Levine conducts. Eva-Maria Westbroek and Peter Mattei co-star.

The drama of a young woman who sexually andemotionally dominates a wide range of willingvictims, both male and female. Met MusicDirector James Levine conducts this wild journeyof love, obsession, and death, with sopranoMarlis Petersen in the title role. Production byacclaimed artist and director William Kentridge.

MANON LESCAUTPUCCINIThe Met stage ignites when soprano Kristine Opolais and tenor Jonas Kaufmann join forces in Puccini’s obsessive love story.Opolais sings the title role of a country girl who transforms herself into a Parisian temptress, while Kaufmann is the dashing student who desperately woos her. Director Richard Eyre places the action in occupied France in a film noir setting.

In this third in a trilogy of Donizetti operasfeaturing Tudor queens, soprano SondraRadvanovsky plays Queen Elizabeth I,forced to sign the death warrant of thenobleman she loves, Roberto Devereux,sung by Matthew Polenzani.

Anthony Minghella’s breathtaking productionhas thrilled audiences ever since its premiere in2006. One of the world’s foremost Butterflys,soprano Kristine Opolais, is in the title role.Tenor Roberto Alagna sings Pinkerton, thenaval officer who breaks her heart.

ELEKTRARICHARD STRAUSS

The genius director Patrice Chéreau didn’t liveto see his great Elektra production make it tothe stage of the Met. But his overpoweringvision lives on with soprano Nina Stemme who portrays Elektra’s quest for vengeance for the murder of her father, Agamemnon.Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts.
