St. Mary of the Annunciation parish provides its children with a safe environment. Catechists and all volunteers with access to children have undergone the Virtus Training Session, are background screened and sign a Code of Conduct and understand the Policy of the Diocese concerning abuse. All volunteers with access to minors (those under the age of 18) must meet these requirements of the diocese in order to volunteer. Local Community NewsMusic Director Position: St. James Catholic Church has an opening for a part-time Director of Music. A minimum of five years’ experience in leading a Catholic church choir is required; a Bachelors and or Masters degree in conducting or music studies is preferred. Duties include choosing the music for Masses; rehearsing with and directing the choir at Sunday Masses, on Holy Days, and other special events; and working with the administration and the Hispanic choir leader to coordinate the music for several bilingual liturgies throughout the year. Beginning with the Old Testament, this series of presentations will unravel the times, persona, mission, message, challenges, and vision of the Bible’s ancient prophets who lead us into an understanding of who God is, who Jesus is, who we are, and who we are meant to become in this 21st century.Sr. Carol Dempsey is a Professor of Theology (Biblical Studies) at the University of Portland. She has graduate degrees from St. Louis University and the Catholic University of America and has taught at all levels. She has written numerous articles and books as well as being an editor for a variety of series. She is a member of the Caldwell Dominican Sisters Community.

For Paul, all of a believer’s life is spiritual. We will explore what it means to live a life totally committed to God as Paul wanted for his communities and how to apply that wisdom to our lives today. Br. Elliott Maloney is a Professor of New Testament Studies and Biblical Languages at Saint Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, PA. He has graduate degrees from the Pontifical Atheneum of Saint Anselm in Rome and Fordham University. He has worked as a translator for the New American Bible. His most recently published book is on the topic we will be studying this week. Fortnight for Freedom is a call by the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops (USCCB) to fourteen days of prayer, education, and action for religious freedom in the United States and abroad. The theme of this year’s Fortnight, June 21, 2014 – July 4, 2014, is Freedom to Serve and will focus on how religious freedom enables the flourishing of the Church’s robust service to the poor and vulnerable in accord with human dignity and the Church’s teaching. The Diocese of Charleston will open the Fortnight with a Mass celebrated by The Most Rev. Robert E. Guglielmone, Bishop of Charleston, at St. Mary Church in Greenville, SC on June 21, 2014, at 10:00am. Eucharistic Procession will follow the Mass to the Grotto. Are You an Active Member?Various facilities and services are available to our active members. This includes use of the Church for Baptisms, Weddings, and other sacramental events, and includes parishioner status in parochial schools.Active Membership is determined by four things:
1. Being properly registered in the parish for a sufficient period of time.2. Faithful attendance at Mass on Sundays and Holy Days.3. Use of the envelope system in regular support of the parish.4. Being active in at least one parish program, ministry, or organization.

Altar Flowers: Every member of the parish is invited to contribute to the beauty of our worship space by Providing the altar flowers on a particular
Sunday to the glory of God, in memory, thanksgiving, or celebration of people or events that are important to that donor. Please call the Parish Office for more

Baptisms are celebrated on the 2nd Saturday of the month at 10:30am or the 4th Sunday of the month during the 9:30am Mass. Baptisms that are scheduled during Mass are especially rich in significance. The joyful witness of the entire parish community emphasizes the reality that, through Baptism, a person truly becomes a part of the Mystical Body of Christ and a permanent member of God’s family. The Sacrament of MatrimonyEither the bride or the groom must be a practicing Catholic and registered at St. Marys for at least twelve months before scheduling a wedding date and beginning the six months marriage preparation. The bride/groom must be an active parishioner, regularly attending Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of obligation, and use the envelope system in regular support of the parish.
