Step by step how I produced my contents page

Production of College Magazine Contents Page

I started a new project on QuarkXPress and added three columns. I had to drag down the single page tool so I wouldn’t create my contents page on the template.

I then used the image tool, circled below, to create the box where I would import my image.

I then inserted the image I took of some sheet music and inserted it into the box.

I had to adjust the image because it was too big so I made it smaller and cropped it down so you can see some of the lyrics and the notes.

I inserted the title of the page using the text tool, circled below. I then decided what font and colour I should have using the bar at the top. I had to make the font white so it would stand out in front of the sheet music.

Using the text tool again I created a text box and started the content. I had to adjust this box because it overlapped in the columns.

I added other text boxes, using the same tool. I used a similar font throughout and made the title of the page bigger to catch the reader’s attention. I included columns like “The Regulars” and “This Issue” to separate the content.

I added an image to my contents page which links to one of the pages. To do this I clicked the image tool, circled below, and cropped it down so it would fit in the box.

I added more content and another image which I had to crop down too so it would fit properly in the space.

I then saved it as a project and as an image so I’m able to print it out and post it on my blog.
