Step 1: Competency Self‐Assessment (Professional Development Inventory)

• Domains ‐ Sphere of knowledge (enumerated items)• Subdomains ‐ Part of the larger domain and 

represented by letters• Competencies by academic level

– Which HIM academic level are you currently in (do you hold an associate, bachelor’s or master’s degree in HIM)?

– Do you anticipate that changing?

Step 2: Review Each Competency Statement

Domain I. Data content, structure, and standards (information governance)Subdomain I.A Classification Systems (data standards)

Graduate Level: Construct examples of mapping of clinical vocabularies and terminologies to appropriate classification systems

Baccalaureate:Identify the functions and relationships between healthcare classification systems

Associate: Evaluate the accuracy of diagnostic and procedural coding
