NEW PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS

• Adopted December 2007• Implemented January 2008

– 12 standards– Divided under three headings:

• Context: WHERE• Process: HOW• Content: WHAT

NEW PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS

• Align with NJ Standards for teachers

• Apply to all educators

• Should be used for new district PD Plans

• Should be used for PDP’s

Spirit of New PD

• PD Regulations encourage collaborative learning experiences

• Toolkit for NJ Educators recommended (on our Intranet)

• Encourages professional learning to take place in collaborative teams within professional learning communities

PD Regulations

• All teachers accrue PD hours (even first year teachers who hold provisional certificates (mentoring)

• New teachers must have PDP within 60 days from beginning of assignment

• Provider system has been eliminated

• Districts can write multi-year plans starting with plans for 2010-2011 year.

• 3 TEACHERS

• 1 ADMINISTRATOR

• The initial terms of charter members of the SPDC shall be staggered to assure continuity with two teacher members serving three years and the other teacher serving two years.

• Subsequent terms shall be TWO years• Members can serve up to three additional terms• Terms begin on September 1 and shall expire August 31 of the appropriate year• Member vacancy: the president in consultation with building association

representatives shall appoint a replacement to serve out the remaining term

The Role of the SPDC

• To work as a professional learning community that connects teaching and learning, in the school and the classrooms, to determine the staff professional learning that will enhance student achievement.

• Establish group norms

• Determine goals

• Develop communication process

• Assess learning needs of SPDC members

• Work Collaboratively with LPDC

• Work collaboratively with other SPDC’s

• Training (webinars, Toolkit)

SPDC: Developing the School PD Plan (DOE Template)

• Review current PD Plans (will place on Intranet)• Collect & organize data• Identify the essential focus of student learning• Conduct needs assessment• Identify goals and outcomes• Plan PD activities• Monitor school plan• Create evaluation plan• Work with LPDC

• We form the Local Professional Development Plan by:Collecting and by reviewing School PD Plans

Communicate District PD Plan

Train, support, and work with SPDC’s

February are planning months.

• End of February – LPDC plan submitted to BOE for approval

• After BOE approval – send to County for approval

• If approved by County- back to BOE for final approval and adoption by Board Resolution

• Place on Intranet
