Let’s start module
RATIONAL NUMBERS:-The numbers of the form p/q where p and q are
integers and q ≠ 0 are called Rational Numbers.
Eg. 3/2 , -7/8 , -2 =(-2/1) , 0=(0/1) etc.NOTE:- Every whole number , integer and
fraction is a Rational Number but vice-versa.Examples: 0,-2,3 etc are rational numbers as
each one of them can be written as 0/1, -2/1, 3/1 and so on.
POSITIVE and NEGATIVE Rational Numbers: Every rational number other than ‘zero’ is either positive or negative.

Positive Rational Numbers:-If both p and q are positive or negative
, the rational number will be Positive.
Eg. 5/4 (both positive) , -3/-4 (both negative) etc
Negative Rational Numbers :-If both p and q have opposite signs
i.e., p is positive and q is negative (eg .) 2/5 or p is negative and q is positive (eg .)7/11 , then the rational number is Negative.

Standard form of a Rational Number :-A rational number p/q is said to be in
standard form if q is positive and p and q have no common divisor other than 1. (HCF of p and q is 1).
Eg. 21/-70 = 21 ÷(-)7/(-)70 ÷ (-)7 = -3/10 ( divide both numerator and denominator by the H.C.F. of 21 and 70 i.e., 7 )
Therefore, -3/10 is the standard form as H.C.F. of -3 and 10 is 1 and denominator 10 is positive .
