Faces of the Pieta

• The upper photo is Michelangelo’s depiction of the face of Christ and the lower photo is his depiction of the face of Mary.

Collecting the Tithe(a tithe barn)

• The drawing was inked by Albrecht Durer in 1498 and clearly demonstrated the fear of Hell as the Church wished the people to see it. The drawing depicts the biblical account of the apocalypse from the Book of Revelations. The 4 Horsemen who will wreck vengeance on the damned during the final Day of Judgment are:

Conquest, holding a bow. War, holding a sword. Justice, holding the scales. Death or Plague riding a pale horse.

Luther’s Response

• “Here I stand, God help me. I cannot, I will, not recant.”
