PRP has a proven track record in creating high quality places that can
inspire and encourage community life. We create new communities,
regenerate existing urban fabric, expand existing settlements, plan
large-scale mixed use developments and design public spaces and
landscapes. We understand the importance of changing perceptions
of place to create character and add value.
PRP’s multi-disciplinary teams bring together skills in masterplanning,
urban design, landscape architecture and environmental and
sustainable design to deliver successful and sustainable solutions
for developments of any scale. Supported by our investment in
research, we offer expertise in the many inter-related issues involved
in the creation of successful places. For example at the larger scale,
the management of water resources and the fostering of biodiversity,
down to the design of successful streets and spaces at the
smaller scale.
Our approach is based on two key elements:
Vision We bring strong skills in visioning and changing the perceptions
of a place to unlock its potential. We begin by developing a
strong conceptual narrative that forms the basis for subsequent
design stages.
Value Through our experience of delivering projects in a broad range
of economic, social and environmental settings and our expertise
in public consultation and technical delivery, we can add value
to our work and ensure that our projects foster a climate for
investment and growth.
Chongqing, P.R.China
Chongqing Urban Framework P. R.China
Masterplanning Urban Design Landscape Architecture
Chongqing is the largest city in western China, with a population of
32 million. The YuZhong peninsula is the centrepiece site of the wider
‘Two River Four Shore’ urban design campaign run by the city
Government. The project aims to raise the international profile of the
city, to attract inward investment and to improve the quality
of the environment at a human scale.
The site is bounded by the Jialing and Yangtze rivers, with their
confluence forming the dramatic heart of the city. PRP has developed
the overall vision and instigated a new planning framework for the
peninsula, encompassing the central business district and the historic
core of the city.
Proposals focus on upgrading the image and legibility of the city
centre, improving connections to the river front, developing character
areas within new urban quarters, protecting heritage, upgrading
the existing fabric and environment and making significant new
landscape proposals.

Wornington Green is the largest regeneration scheme in the Royal
Borough of Kensington and Chelsea for decades. PRP has provided
the masterplan for the overall redevelopment and the detailed design
for the first phase.
The design will complement the rich architectural heritage of the
area and reinstate links between Portobello Road and Ladbroke Grove.
The development will eventually provide up to 1,000 new homes
and a new London square will form the focal point of the new
urban quarter.
The final design solution is the culmination of over five years’
consultation and offers an exemplary model for large-scale urban
regeneration, in which public housing is seamlessly integrated
with private housing. Materials and details are of a high quality,
to reinforce the vibrancy of the local vernacular.

Working for the Montenegro Government, PRP prepared a detailed
masterplan for an area of over 1,500 ha of Mediterranean coastline,
incorporating two new towns for a population of 45,000 residents
and the provision of tourism, health, educational, recreational and
cultural facilities.
The plan fulfils the Government’s vision for sustainable tourism
as a catalyst for development. It provides a new community to
encourage future growth while protecting and enhancing the
sensitive coastal ecology.

This major regeneration project in the London Borough of
Lambeth will deliver 808 new homes and the refurbishment
of 172 existing properties.
The masterplan focuses on the public realm, at the heart of which is
a new central park and community centre. A new hierarchy of streets
create character areas relating to the surrounding urban form,
providing a variety of identities for the different parts of the estate.
The plan incorporates new technologies for heat and power, a strategy
to develop and enhance the ecology of the area and the placement
of art. The plan was developed in consultation with stakeholders and
the local community.

Yuntolovo St. Petersburg Russia
Masterplanning This competition winning scheme is for a new community of 70,000
residents on a 500 ha site to the north of St. Petersburg. To be
developed over a period of ten years, it will provide retail and leisure
facilities, schools, kindergartens, parks and a zoo.
The design strategy creates a sustainable community in a wooded
landscape, using and extending existing canals as a central feature
of the landscape design. A tram system provides links to existing local
public transport and the city itself.

Homs City Extension Syria
Masterplanning Urban Design Landscape Architecture
Working with the Homs Governorate, PRP has prepared a strategic
plan for the growth and extension of the city of Homs, the third largest
city in Syria. The plan incorporates the wholesale regeneration of
929 ha of the existing city fabric and far-reaching proposals for four
distinct new areas:
Misfat Homs: A 757 ha extension of the city over former
‘brownfield’ industrial land
Cornisha Aisha: The regeneration of 929 ha of existing
‘informal’ settlements
The Eastern Garden Suburbs: A 461 ha extension of the city

PRP is designing an extension of the city of Cambridge as a distinct
new community accommodating 2,500 new homes, shopping, schools
and community facilities.
The plan maintains local ‘green belt’ open space and will enhance
the existing landscape. At the heart of the development is the ‘spine’,
a route accessed through new ‘gateway’ public spaces which leads to
a central square as the focus for the community.

Adjacent to the site of the 2012 Olympics, Bow Cross (formerly known
as Crossways Estate) is a significant regeneration project that includes
the refurbishment of existing homes and the provision of 400 new
homes in a safe community environment. Apartments are designed
to generous standards of area, storage and open space.
The three, 25 storey, tower blocks which dominate Bow Cross are
being re-clad and re-fitted as high-quality low-energy homes. The first
of the three towers has been refurbished and work has begun on
the neighbouring tower. Communal areas and entrances are carefully
designed for comfort and security. With rooftop lighting visible
throughout the area, they act as a symbol of the regeneration
of the community.

Adjacent to Blackheath Park, with its strong character and views
over London, the masterplan provides a connection to the park and
proposes a ‘green axis’ extending from the park through the site as
the organising idea.
It maintains communal open space and enhances ecology while
regenerating this prime location with new development. It offers
a mix of tenures and unit sizes to support the development of an
inclusive community.

As part of the wider masterplan, PRP developed a strategy for the
public realm which includes proposals for the design and landscaping
of streets, public spaces, car parking and play areas.
A landscape strategy proposes ecological planting principles and
the re-introduction of nature into the area. Materials are sustainably
sourced and sustainable drainage strategies include the use of swales
and attenuation ponds.
