Creativity, expression, passion

CAS WEEK:

“Our annual CAS Week invites international students to organize a creative week for local Hong Kong citizens. This will be a 7 day long program.”

CREATIVE SUPPLIES DELIVERY “We will gather up donated supplies and visit government housing and the poorer citizens of Hong Kong, delivering them free supplies to allow them opportunities to express themselves in new ways.”

Literature, arts, music, drama, photography

AREAS

LITERATURE “A book provides a gateway to another world.”

Our students will introduce participants to literature by:

-Exposing them to new books

-Taking them to the library

-Having story telling sessions

-Having writing sessions

-Giving your time to explore genres

ARTS “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.”

Our students will introduce participants to arts by:

-Providing them with free art supplies

-Taking them to local art galleries

-Giving them free creative sessions

MUSIC “One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”

Our students will introduce participants to music by:

-Exposing them to new genres of music

-Giving them chances to try out instruments

-Working on music performances

DRAMA AND FILM “We do on stage things that are supposed to happen off. Which is a kind of integrity, if you look on every exit as being an entrance somewhere else.”

Our students will introduce participants to drama by:

-Showing them different films

-Involving them in drama games

-Showing them plays

-Giving them short scripts to practice

PHOTOGRAPHY “What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”

Our students will introduce participants to photography by:

-Showing them professional photographs

-Providing them opportunities to photograph areas in Hong Kong

-Teaching them simple techniques

And core beliefs

OUR VISION

Helping those who cannot help themselves

Aiding the less fortunate through creativity and expression

Broadening the horizons of those who do not have chances to

Giving them not necessarily solutions, but ways to help themselves

WHO WE WILL WORK WITH: !   Mentally disabled

!   Those suppressed in physical labor

!   The disadvantaged

!   Children

!   Financially troubled

!   Sick and terminally ill

What Island School students will do: Join our CAS week program, in which you will have the chance to run and organize a week to offer chances for the less privileged in your community through creative mediums.

This CAS week will be for… !   14 senior year students

!   A 6-7 day long program

!   Preferably with basic skill in both Cantonese and English

Before the CAS Week

!   Island School students will plan out the week before hand

!   Jobs will be allocated

!   Students will get into groups to organize a creative week for the less privileged in Hong Kong

DAY ONE: INTRODUCTIONS AND DELIVERIES !   Gather up everything they planned with ready

made schedules

!   Go to the community they chose to work with (e.g. government housing) to deliver supplies

!   In the afternoon, meet up with the locals they will be working with throughout the week

DAY TWO: ART

Students will aid participants in art-related activities planned beforehand

DAY THREE: MUSIC

Students will aid participants in carrying out music-related activities planned beforehand

DAY FOUR: LITERATURE

Students will aid participants in carrying out literature related activities they planned beforehand

DAY FIVE: DRAMA

Students will aid participants in drama related activities planned beforehand

DAY SIX: PHOTOGRAPHY

Students will aid participants in photography related activities planned beforehand

DAY SEVEN: WRAP UP

There will be one last day with the participants, in which participants will present (aided by Island School students) the projects they managed to achieve throughout the week
