What is Subject-Based Banding (SBB)?

• Pupils do subjects at the levels that best meet their abilities study subjects they are strong in to the highest level possible

• Subjects are offered at Standard and Foundation levels

• It is NOT INTENDED to provide a softer option

At the end of P4…

• School makes recommendation for a subject combination– Pass mark – 50 marks

– Teachers’ recommendation

– Importance of EL & Maths

• Parents have the optionto accept the school’s recommendation or proceed with their own choice

• Areas of focus: Key science vocabulary words andprocess skills such as observing, comparing,classifying, analyzing & predicting will beemphasised. Pupils will also be taught to applyscience concepts learnt into real-life experiences.ICT-infused lessons will be introduced to promoteself-directed and collaborative learning
