What is equipment.data?

An RCUK (EPSRC) funded project to establish a service providing a national research equipment portal for HE

A project team based at the University of Southampton:

Adrian Cox – Project Manager

Louise Payne – Project marketing & communications officer

Andrew Milsted – Web developer

Who are we?

• Established network of interested parties in equipment sharing

related activity (SES (S5 then), N8, GW4, M5)

• Standardised database vocabulary – the “UNIQUIP data

publishing specification”

• Established common agreement to linked open data approach

• Early influencing of system design (e.g. Pure, Agresso, Kit

Catalogue and bespoke systems)

• Proved the concept for a national equipment portal

Where did it start?

What are our objectives:

• Deliver a sustainable solution enabling the searching of research equipment and facilities across HE

• Provide support for institutions wishing to engage

• Contribute to wider related developments (e.g. Gateway to Research and equipment sharing discussion)

• Vendor engagement – influencing system design and interoperability

• Continued community engagement Landscape study follow-up and increasing compliance

• Encouraging introduction into procedures and guidance

• Establishing the standards Embedding open data best practice, linking wider datasets e.g. publications for Gateway to ResearchAchieving recognised standards e.g. W3C and CASRAI

• Vendor engagement – wider developments – Use in institutional repositories
