Open-ended Question #7 – Ano pa ang masasabi mo o mga mungkahi tungkol dito sa DOST-SEI
School caravan para maipalaganap ang tungkol sa S&T Scholarship programs sa iba’t ibang lugar?
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
CONCLUSIONS
There was an over-all satisfaction among the participants:
Average ratings for the School Caravan’s components garnered average scores of at least 8
out of 10.
The over-all campaign was given the highest rating, “Mahusay”, by 77.7% of those who were
asked.
A good 88.6% stated that they wanted to apply for a scholarship.
Lowest-rated component: Video presentations (8.1 out of 10)
Highest rated components: Personal explanations of DOST-SEI staff regarding the
scholarship program and process (9.3); Story and message of the scholar graduates (8.9)
There was a notable increase of interest in the number of students who wanted to take
up science-related courses after the School Caravan, especially for “other science-related
courses” (200.0% increase, from three (3) students to nine (9) students), Life Science
courses (146.7% increase), Physics-related courses (88.2% increase), and Science teaching
(61.9% increase).
RECOMMENDATIONS
Provide clearer instructions on how to answer and proceed for items that have follow up
questions. (For instance, for question #4, “Ngayong alam mo na ang tungkol sa DOST
Scholarship programs nagbago ba ang kurso na plano mong kunin sa kolehiyo?”, there were
some who answered “Oo” but still gave an answer to “Kung Hindi nagbago, bakit?”, and
otherwise. )
Multiple-response questions may be used in place of open-ended questions.
Personally clarify the questions beforehand to guide the participants in answering the
questions.
Instruct the participants to limit blank answers.
Concerning the evaluation tool (questionnaire) used
RECOMMENDATIONS
Since the students prefer to hear more inspiring stories, and more personal messages, more scholars may be invited in
the future to share their stories.
Visuals and presentations can be made more engaging, entertaining, or interactive, and audience participation can be
inserted in parts of the program.
Utilize word-of-mouth.
Increase number and frequency of social media posts and interactions. Scholars may be encouraged to post their
testimonials on the website and on social media.
Representatives may be sent to take part in career orientations in as many schools as possible.
Emphasize the various benefits received by a scholar when discussing the programs.
Provide activities and testimonials which prove that S&T courses can be fun and easy to understand and teach.
Increase number of satellite offices in locations far from the cities.
Create an online system of application.
