Abstract: The purpose of this document is to provide development direction for all functionality related to
QBank & Passages in the ALMS v6 online portal.

Interaction 02E- Step 2: Multiple Choice: Single Correct Answer

User to add

chosen, math WYSIWYG options populate

Interaction 02G- Step 1: Free-Form (Constructive Response)
There is a minor difference between the Step 1
Interaction for Free Form vs. other question types.
Differences as follows:
A- User either chooses: alpha, numeric or
alphanumeric in drop down. Dropdown defaults
to alphanumeric.
This controls how the student (test taker) sees
the question in the assessment. When taken
online, the system will enforce that the student
enter an answer in the constraint provided at the
question level.
B- Field should only allow numbers (numeric
constraint).
C- User chooses between words and characters.

Interaction 02H- Step 2: Free-Form (Constructive Response)
For free-form (Constructive Response) questions,
User will not input answer options. Question-creator
will only view a lone commentary field to input details
into, 1500 character constraint.

Interaction 02I- Step 1: Fill in the Blank- PHASE 2.
There is a minor difference between the Step 1
interaction for Fill in the Blank vs. other question
types. Differences as follows:
A- There is instructional text that informs the User
how to identify areas in the question that
require variable text. User must enter anchors
for answer sets using [blank].
B- User enters in [blank] and system knows that
each answer set should have the number of
variables (blanks) defined.

User enters the correct answer to the
question with a hyphen. Example of
how the test looks at the assessment

Interaction 02K- Open Ended Response: Step 1
Open Ended Response will provide 4
options in constraints:
02K.1- Must Equal Decimal
When User selects this option, adds
field requesting value, in decimal
format. During grading, system to
enforce that any value entered equals
the decimal point value entered.
02K.2- Specific Value Constraint
When User selects this option,
system adds field requesting specific
value. During grading, system to
enforce that value matches verbatim.
02K.3- Range of Values
When User selects this option, adds
two fields:
- From
- To
System enforces, when grading, that
value is in between the two values in
the from and to.
02K.4- Can be One of Many Values
When User selects this option, adds
two fields prompting User to enter
specific values. There must be at
least two unique values in order for
the User to proceed to Step 2. User
can add additional values by pressing
the add icon.
System enforces, when grading, that
the value entered by the test-taker is
at least one the values allowed by the
question-creator.

Interaction 02L- Open Ended Response: Step 2
For OER questions, User will input answer options in
Step 1. Question-creator will only view a lone
commentary field to input details into, 1500
character constraint.

Interaction 02M- Selection (Added Back in Scope)
A- User will get instructions in The Question Textbox requesting to identify answers by putting after each answer set. The words that precede the command will be those that will show in the answer set at the assessment level. In the adjacent example, the answer set would be

User will have the ability to add additional answer selections when proceeding to Step 2.

Interaction 02N- Selection: Step 2
For Selections, the answers set at the question
level will prepopulate as selections in the
answer. They will inherit the formatting in the
question that was set with the designations
in Step 1.
A- In addition to the answers designated during Step 1, User can also add another answer to the set by clicking Add.
B- Answer set read only and inherits formatting from question in Step 1
C- User can select the answer as correct, incorrect, or sort, per the functionality defined in Multiple Choice. If the User deletes the answer choice, it removes the in step 1. There can be >1 correct answer for Selection Type.
D- Answer set read only and inherits formatting from question in Step 1
E- User can select the answer as correct, incorrect, or sort, per the functionality defined in Multiple Choice. If the User deletes the answer choice, it removes the in step 1. There can be >1 correct answer for Selection Type.
F- F is an example of the User adding his / her own answer set in addition to the answers designated during Step 1. A WYSIWYG will appear allowing User to format the additional answer.

Interaction 02O- Assign Passage to Question
A- Takes User to Create New Passage
interaction. Once the passage is created,
User is returned to this workflow.
When User goes into Create New Passage
interaction, the question gets saved in
Draft status, and Private.
B- User sees another category called
Passage Features. On-click, presents the
folder structure listed in 02O.1.
C- User searches by keyword (tags) and
passage name. Can further filter down
using the standard system, curriculum
category, test applicability, and subject
filters.
D- User can chooses only one passage to
associate the question to. Once one
passage is chosen, all other checkboxes

Interaction 02R- Associate Question with Passage
Clarification Point for AA and dev- if User does not align any question text to passage, Step 3 assigns the question to the passage. Step 4 is Optional. User does not have to align text with the passage. If the User does not align text with the passage, then system knows not to populate the question by the aligned area of the passage during assessment taking and will populate the question at the end of the passage.
A- If User clicks Words / Lines then the User
can highlight a word or a group of words to
align the passage content to. User can only
highlight one word / group of words at a time.
B- If User clicks Anchor radio then then he /
she can choose where the anchor should be
placed. Only one anchor can be placed per
question.
C- User can add a description that shows in
context with the question and passage.
When the question / passage combo is
viewed in the assessment and the question
with the associated passage is presented, the
test-taker will view this description regarding
the passage at the question level.
D- On-click, takes User to Step 5: Choose

assigned to an AA User, he / she will
receive a notification on the portal

question level.

layer of help in grouping items so

Theme-04: Create / Edit Passage Interaction 04A- Step 1: Enter Passage Information

Interaction 04B- Step 2: Tag Passage- Phase 2
04B.1- User highlights passage, then is prompted to click Tag
04B.2- User adds tags and clicks Add when tagging complete.
04B.3- When tagged, User views pop-out on-hover of Tagged icon
and can view the tags relevant to that passage.
04B.4- Business Justification for Passage Tagging
The purpose of this is so that AA can start compiling a record of
snippets of passage with specific tags. This can be used for
reporting later in Build 2 or can be used for more intricate,
smarter, and predictive features in assessment / question
creation later.

Interaction 04C- Step 3: Review & Publish Passage
A- Status defaults to Draft
B- The Assign To field is only visible to
Users with Internal AA role type that
have permissions to access passages.
Note that when a passage, he / she will
receive a notification on the portal saying
C- User has ability to tag a passage. Any
tags pertaining to an associated passage
will be inherited here, and the User can
remove the tag at the question level.
D- Field is only visible IF User is in the role
type Internal AA User. The Category
field will providing another layer of help in
grouping items so that its easier to filter /
select by category designation when the
AA User accesses the products module.
This will be a custom field managed in
admin panel.
E- If Visibility = Private AND User = Internal
AA, then the question is only viewed to
others with Internal AA role type. If
Visibility = Public AND User = Internal
AA, then the question is published to
anyone that has access to that QBank
item.
If Visibility = Public AND User = Teacher,
Tutor OR External AA, the question is
shared with all other like Users in the
same institution AND department.
If Visibility = Private AND User =
Teacher, Tutor, OR External AA, the
question is only visible to the question
author.
