A brief history of our school

It was always related to the cultural and educational history of Majorca

First High School of Spain➔ The former “Balearic High School” was founded in 1836. Located in

the seat of the formerly closed “Balearic University”, this institution moved twice to different places of the historical centre, close to Palma's Cathedral.

➔ It was considered during the last Century the first and only High School in our country.

• “General Technics High School”

➔ At the end of the XIXth Century it became known as “General Technics High School”

“Balearic High School”Many distinguished people related to our regional or

national culture and politics such as: Joan Alcover, Gabriel Alomar, Miquel Costa i Llobera, Eusebi Estada, Antoni

Maura Gabriel Maura, M. dels Sants Oliver, etc studied there.

WHAT’S IT CALLED NOW? “RAMON LLULL

SECONDARY SCHOOL”

The present building, as we see it in this picture, opened in 1916. It was called “Ramon Llull” in honour to a great Majorcan philosopher and writer from the XIII th. century.

Since that time it has always stood out by its tolerance and, at times, ultramodernity for a society as conservative as Majorcan was .

WHERE IS IT?

• IT’S IN A LIVELY SQUARE

so-called “Plaça del tube” (Tube square) sharing this place with two other schools.

• THIS SQUARE IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PRINCIPAL AVENUE OF PALMA, which divides the city and the sourrounings.

What’s it like? It’s old and historical

Now the “Ramon Llull Secondary School”

building belongs to our National Art Heritage.
