Other political parties

One feature of the German political system was that

there were many parties, lots of which started out more powerful than the

Nazis.

However still the Nazis managed to become the only

power.

SPD/KPD divide

The Social Democratic Party (SPD) and German Communist Party (KPD) agreed on many issues, especially stopping the

Nazis, but refused to work together.

This was due to a dispute going back to the

Spartacist Revolt.

Personal arguments

Arguments between German Chancellors

Franz von Papen (June-November 1932) and Kurt von Schleicher

(December 1932-January1933) allowed

Hitler to take charge of a disorganised government.

Arguments for influence

May Germans and political groups were worried by Hitler but put personal

issues ahead of stopping him.

Hitler and the Nazis were also underestimated by many other politicians in

Germany.

Arguments against influence

Weimar may have survived if it was not for uncontrollable

economic problems.

Also, regardless of other issues, Hitler was also

offering policies that many Germans agreed with.
