From the Pastor’s Pen…“Believing is Seeing”

“Listen to me, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Believe in the LORD your God, and you will be able to stand firm. Believe in his prophets, and you will succeed.”

II Chronicles 20:20 NLT

2020 is the Year of Wisdom at Brown as we start our three-year theme of “Making Sense of It All.” Times are changing and we must be wise to overcome the challenges of these changing times and thrive. Therefore, in 2020 I want us to have 20/20 vision and see with the wisdom of God. A perfect example of this is II Chronicles 20:20 with King Jehoshaphat and the children of Judah.

The odds were against them (II Chronicles 20:1-2). Jehoshaphat and the people were overwhelmed with the news of a coming war. They were outnumbered as three armies were coming against them. The order was given to pray, fast and seek the LORD’s help (II Chronicles 20:3-4). The people came together in unity to seek God (II Chronicles 20:13). Optimism and obedience were the keys to victory (II Chronicles 20:14-21). The people were encouraged not to be afraid or discouraged because the battle belonged to the LORD and He would fight for them. As they rose and marched to the battlefield, their outburst was heard in heaven and it sent shockwaves on earth (II Chronicles 20:22-24). To demonstrate their FAITH, the singers were placed in front of the army and when they started to sing, God started to work, and their enemies destroyed each other. The outcome was unbelievable (II Chronicles 20:25-26) as God turned their Valley of Battle into a Valley of Blessings. It took them three (3) days to gather the spoils of war (goods, equipment, clothing and other valuables). They had more than they could carry. They were overjoyed as they returned to Jerusalem (II Chronicles 20:27-30). It was a praise party as they marched straight to the Temple. God had given them protection from their enemies, provisions to enjoy, and even peace on every side.

I know it is often said that “Seeing is Believing” but with God “Believing is Seeing.” With faith in God, we are given wisdom and we can experience insight and increase. I am believing God to give the increase in 2020. Wisdom is when we “Do what the LORD our God commands and follow all His teachings . . . Then we will be a success, no matter what we do or where we go.” I Kings 2:3)

Believing is Succeeding!

So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.
