You know a verb is reflexive if…

• It ends in – “SE”• Ej: lavarse, despertarse, secarse,

cepillarse etc

• The regular verbs end in – ar - er - ir

What is a reflexive verb?

• Reflexive verbs are used to tell that a person does something to or for him- or herself.

• Ex: Antes de comer yo me lavo las manos

• Before dinner I wash my hands.

• When the doer and receiver is the same person we use the reflexive verbs

• Me lavo el pelo todos los dias. – I wash my hair every day.

• Otherwise is just a regular verb• Lavo el coche a menudo. – I wash

the car often

To make the difference between a regular verb and a reflexive verb using the

reflexive pronouns

myself - me ourselves - nos

yourself - te yourselves - os

himself - se themselves - se

In order to conjugate a reflexive verb, we put the reflexive pronoun …

1. Before the verb

(Yo) me lavo Nosotros nos lavamos

(Tú) te lavas Vosotros os laváis

(Él) se lava Ellos se lavan

2. Reflexive in infinitive when using two verbs, the first verb is conjugated and the second one we leave it in infinitive and ADD the reflexive pronouns at the end.

(Yo) quiero lavarme Nosotros queremos lavarnos

(Tú) quieres lavarte Vosotros quereis lavaros

(Él) quiere lavarse Ellos quieren lavarse
