People may choose to wear poppies in November. This is to

remember the people who have died in wars.

After 4 years of fighting the first world war ended in

November 1918. 18 million people died in that war.

Poppies grew in the battle scarred fields of France and Belgium

after the battles of the first world war

A soldier John McCrae was inspired by the sight of poppies

to write a poem called 'In Flanders Fields'.

After the First World War, the poppy was adopted as a

symbol of Remembrance.

Every year on the 11th of november politicians, the royal family and

veterans lay wreaths at the Cenotaph in London.
