A message from the Immediate Past Chairman
Sincerely,
Alicia McGlincheyAlicia McGlinchey, Community VolunteerImmediate Past ChairmanHEB ISD Education Foundation
It has been my privilege to serve as Chair of the HEB ISD Education Foundation Board for the past four years. This group of dedicated volunteers has worked tirelessly to advance our mission to raise and award private funds and community resources to support the HEB ISD's commitment to excellence in education.
We have not only raised awareness of the great work of the district and raised money to support our cause, but through our educator grant program we have invested almost $700,000 in HEB ISD classrooms and campuses. This year, we were also proud to help fund a Reading Oasis at Stonegate Elementary and to invest in an HEB ISD staff leadership development program.
Once again, the Foundation hosted our annual Awards of Excellence event recognizing 35 students and their teacher mentors in 14 fields of study. We were also pleased to welcome new HEB ISD staff members by producing and hosting the New Professionals Luncheon. We continue to strengthen partnerships, working with organizations such as the Council of PTAs and the Retired School Employees, and we launched a Facebook page to share our story and further engage supporters and friends.
Thank you for being part of our success. Please now lend your support to new Board Chair, Jim Griffin, and this amazing group of volunteers. We need you. Together, we make a difference in the lives of our teachers and students.

AWARDS OF EXCELLENCEThe Awards of Excellence Dinner and Ceremony was held on March 10, 2016 at the HEB ISD Pat May Center. The HEB ISD Education Foundation proudly honored 35 outstanding high school seniors and their teacher mentors in 14 fields of study from LD Bell, Trinity, KEYS and the Buinger CTE Academy.
Joining the celebration were local and state elected officials, community and corporate leaders, HEB ISD Administrators and HEB Board of Trustees members. In addition, the HEB ISD Education Foundation recognized the many Foundation Board Members and donors that support the mission of the Foundation.
State Representative Jonathan Stickland, Jim Griffin, Mayor of Bedford, Foundation Board Chair, Alicia McGlinchey, and Superintendent Steve Chapman greeted
the students and teacher mentors on stage. Each of the awardees was given a medal, photo plaque and certificates from State Representative Jonathan Stickland, State Senator Kelly Hancock and State Senator Konni Burton. Tarrant County Commissioner Gary Fickes provided each recipient with a certificate of recognition.
The evening included a recognition presentation emceed by Dr. Jeff Burnett, First Baptist Hurst and Foundation Board Member. Abuelo’s restaurant was the caterer for the evening and dessert was provided by the HEB ISD Culinary Arts program.
Thank you for your support of our outstanding students and teachers through our annual Awards of Excellence program.
“It was an honor to be a part of the 2016 Awards of Excellence event and to
learn firsthand how the HEB ISD is truly Different by Design. The young man
who sat at our table was encouraged by his teacher to pursue a patent for a
concept which was fostered out of his computer science class at HEB ISD.
In listening to the recognitions during the whole event, it was obvious that
the student at our table was just one of many diverse backgrounds, all who
have one thing in common - the passion to succeed. That says a lot about
our schools, teachers, administrators and community.”
- Rohn Olson, Bell Helicopter & Foundation Board Member

The HEB ISD Education Foundation awarded $53,850,
funding 22 grants for the 2015-2016 academic year.
To date, the Foundation has raised and awarded more than
$643,850 to our deserving HEB ISD classrooms and campuses
and will soon top $700,000. The grant awards have included
innovative initiatives like font software to assist dyslexia students
in all classrooms, leveled literacy intervention for the most at-risk
students and a math camp to bridge the gap created during the
summer learning loss.

review of the grant applications and selects
the best grants based on a published rubric.

EMPOWERED TO EXCELGRANTS IN ACTION
BRIDGING THE GAP WITH LEVELEDLEARNING INTERVENTION (LLI)Shady Brook Elementary - 5th GradeThe fifth grade reading teacher and interventionist used the LLI Kit
as a resource for intervention, small groups and tutoring. Students
read the books and answered comprehension questions in small groups.
“We saw an increase in students being excited to read high quality and
highly engaging texts in the classroom.”
- Melissa Hassell - Shady Brook Elementary School
POSSIBILITIES FOR EVERY ABILITYSpecial Education - Preschool Programfor Children with Disabilities (PPCD)The grant funds were used to purchase iPads so that PPCD teachers could use
them to redesign tasks in order to build language and literacy activities that were
accessible to students with disabilities.
“The iPads made a huge difference in students' responses to literacy and language
activities. Break out a traditional book and student attention wasn't the best.
Break out the iPad and use the Reflector tool so everyone could see, and the music
and movement immediately resulted in heads raised and interest peaked. All students
made progress on their selected goals, and most students met their goals!”
- Melissa Mitchell - HEB ISD Special Education Department
As the district works to boost student interest in science, technology,
engineering and mathematics (STEM), HEB ISD Education Foundation
donors are making a difference in the lives of students and teachers through
their support of programs that help guide students towards a career in these
well-paying fields.
Local business Bell Helicopter, a Foundation Superintendent’s Circle of
Giving Sustainer, learned about the Aerospace Technology program at the Buinger CTE Academy and
made a generous donation to support the students and teachers two years in a row. In one course led by teacher
Mike Skrzynski, students worked to design and launch rockets.
