Is Cinema an Illusion?

AbstractLars von Trier proclaims in the Dogma manifesto the need to make a cinema that escapes from the illusion enco-ded in the superficial, predictable, contrived and decadent actions. His film Idioterne (1998) is the last of his fil-mography certified under the seal Dogma. This film is crossed with the tension that causes the collapse of thatillusion in the search for some authenticity. This illusion is what the group of idiots flee from, being precisely thegroup of idiots which gives the title to the film. Living in a hypocritical society, the authenticity emerges fromtaking out the idiot that is within them. Authenticity linked to the most radical tear, that ends up revealing at thesame time the internal contradictions of the group of idiots itself.

ResumenLars von Trier proclama en el manifiesto Dogma la necesidad de hacer un cine que huya de la ilusión cifrada enlas acciones superficiales, predecibles, artificiosas, decadentes. Su película Idioterne (Los idiotas, 1998) es laúnica de su filmografía certificada bajo el sello Dogma. Película atravesada por la tensión que provoca la quiebrade esa ilusión en busca de cierta autenticidad. Ilusión de la que huye el grupo de los idiotas que da título al film,por entender que viven en una sociedad hipócrita, mientras aflora esa autenticidad derivada de sacar el idiotaque llevan dentro. Autenticidad ligada al desgarro más radical, que termina por revelar a su vez las contradiccio-nes internas del propio grupo de los idiotas.
