A Toast to the Class of 1984

Dear Fellow Normans, It is hard to believe that 30-years has passed by since we graduated from Beverly Hills High School. The reunion was a wonderful night reminiscing with old friends. It seems a lifetime ago and just like it was yesterday. We bonded over fond memories, made new memories, rekindled old friendships and shared where our paths had taken us. It was a real evening of celebration! The night was dedicated to our dear friends no longer with us and we cherish the impressions they left behind in our hearts! For those of you that could not attend, we sincerely missed you and we hope you will join us at the next reunion. Our goal was to connect with as many alumni as possible and we hope to see event more of the class the next time we gather. Please update your contact information with the B.H.H.S. We celebrated with over 225 classmates in attendance which was over a third of our class so kudos to you all for coming out! I hope our special night was more than you hoped for. Every 10 Years

Every ten years, as summertime nears, An announcement arrives in the mail,

A reunion is planned; it'll be really grand; Make plans to attend without fail.

I'll never forget the first time we met; We tried so hard to impress.

We drove fancy cars, smoked big cigars, And wore our most elegant dress.

It was quite an affair; the whole class was there. It was held at a fancy hotel.

We wined, and we dined, and we acted refined, And everyone thought it was swell.

The men all conversed about who had been first To achieve great fortune and fame.

Meanwhile, their spouses described their fine houses And how beautiful their children became.

The homecoming queen, who once had been lean, Now weighed in at one-ninety-six.

The jocks who were there had all lost their hair, And the cheerleaders could no longer do kicks.

No one had heard about the class nerd Who'd guided a spacecraft to the moon;

Or poor little Jane, who's always been plain; She married a shipping tycoon.

The boy we'd decreed "most apt to succeed" Was serving ten years in the pen,

While the one voted "least" now was a priest; Just shows you can be wrong now and then.

They awarded a prize to one of the guys Who seemed to have aged the least.

Another was given to the grad who had driven The farthest to attend the feast.

They took a class picture, a curious mixture Of beehives, crew cuts and wide ties.

Tall, short, or skinny, the style was the mini; You never saw so many thighs.

At our next get-together, no one cared whether They impressed their classmates or not.

The mood was informal, a whole lot more normal; By this time we'd all gone to pot.

It was held out-of-doors, at the lake shores; We ate hamburgers, coleslaw, and beans. Then most of us lay around in the shade,

In our comfortable T-shirts and jeans.

By the fortieth year, it was abundantly clear, We were definitely over the hill.

Those who weren't dead had to crawl out of bed, And be home in time for their pill.

And now I can't wait; they've set the date; Our fiftieth is coming, I'm told.

It should be a ball, they've rented a hall At the Shady Rest Home for the old.

Repairs have been made on my hearing aid; My pacemaker's been turned up on high.

My wheelchair is oiled, and my teeth have been boiled;

And I've bought a new wig and glass eye.

I'm feeling quite hearty, and I'm ready to party I'm gonna dance 'til dawn's early light.

It'll be lots of fun; But I just hope that there's one Other person who can make it that night.

Biography / Memorable Life Experiences: My life has been one great big, fun, crazy adventure, from serving in the Army in Operation Desert Storm ('90-'91) to running the family candy business to living a dream life with my wife and kids. Live music is a huge passion for me (I saw the Dead over 50 times) as well as being a volunteer counselor to homeless youth in downtown San Diego. Our first product was a finalist in a competition for Best New Pet Health Product of the Year @ Mandalay Bay LV. Although we didn't win, it was a great accomplishment for our first product.

Biography / Memorable Life Experiences: I am an early Americanist, a soccer mom, a department chair, a wife, a teacher, a friend, a PTA board member, a torah reader, a lap swimmer, a feminist, and an absent-minded professor. Because of the above, I am now a coffee drinker, and many weeks seem to be all about coffee and chocolate. My daughters are unbelievably but delightfully seventeen and twelve, and Aaron and I will celebrate our twenty-fifth anniversary in December. They are the anchors of all the rest, and I am grateful for them every day, as I am grateful for rich and sustaining friendships with members of this class.

Biography / Memorable Life Experiences: After Beverly I spent the next 10 years on the East Coast -- first college, then 5 years in NYC. I came back to LA for grad school at UCLA, but headed off to New Orleans for my first teaching job at Tulane. After Hurricane Katrina, we moved back to NYC -- where Michael is from -- and started our family, and have made a home for ourselves in a cozy corner of Brooklyn... But when I think about my time at Beverly, the memories that I treasure most are the ones of my circle of friends. Those friendships felt so constant and secure, and I feel so fortunate to have had that warm sense of community.

I've had a highly independent career in a surprising field, and have managed to squeeze in amazing travels all over Europe and Southeast Asia. I watched my first marriage implode tragically, only to find a much better one waiting for me on the other end. Now I'm enjoying a second crack at building a family as a middle-aged man, and am doing it with a woman who truly understands me (and vice versa--sometimes!). Better yet, we absolutely love our house and the community we live in--what more can one ask for?
