Review for Final Exam

MA 160

This will help you prepare for the final exam review, during which I will primarily review exampleproblems.

1. The exam will consist of 20 choice questions and 2 extra credit questions. Each question isworth five points. The questions will cover the following sections from the textbook:

• Chapter 1: 2. (See Study Guide on pg. 146.)

• Chapter 2: 1–5. (See Study Guide on pp. 222–228, skipping Section 2.6, greatest integer,and difference quotient.)

• Chapter 3: 1–5. (See Study Guide on pp. 287–292, skipping completing the square andreducible to quadratic.)

• Chapter 4: 1, 2, 5, 6. (See Study Guide on pp. 375–385, skipping Sections 4.3 and 4.4,intermediate value theorem, and oblique asymptotes.)

• Chapter 5: 1–6. (See Study Guide on pp. 470–477, skipping compound interest andearthquake magnitude.)

• Chapter 6: 1–6. (See Study Guide on pp. 574–583, skipping function values of specialangles, aerial navigation, and reflections.)

• Chapter 7: 1, 4. (See Study Guide on pp. 644–650, Sections 7.1 and 7.4 only.)

2. Be mindful of the mode your calculator is in — degrees or radians.

3. sin 3 should be read as the sine of 3 radians. sin 3◦ is the sine of 3 degrees.

4. Always read problems carefully — pay attention to such things as a problem stating that theunits of x or f(x) are thousands, etc.

5. Remember — sin2 x 6= sinx2 and sin−1 x 6= 1
