Richard Hamilton: ‘Just What Is It That Makes Today’s Homes So Different, So Appealing? (1956) is one of the earliest works to be considered "pop art".

Roy Lichtenstein used the splash page of a romance story in DC Comics' Secret Hearts #83 (November 1962), lettered by Ira Schnapp, as the basis for the image.
