The Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE) was establishedin1964,asanautonomousnon-profitsocietyattheinitiativeofMrSSKhera,ICS(thethen Cabinet Secretary, Government of India) and Dr DS Reddy (the then Vice Chancellor, Osmania University) with the idea of a research institution that would undertake a systematic and sustained study of issues relevant to the formulation of policies pertaining to Public Enterprises. Dr VV Ramanadham, the then Professor and Head, Department of Commerce, Osmania University, with the active support and guidance provided byDrDSReddy,translatedMrKhera’sconceptinto a reality.

It is recognized as ‘Centre of Excellence’ in social science research by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, in the year 1976. Today, IPE proudly stands as a state-of-the-art research and education institute with its new campus being successfully operational at Shamirpet, Hyderabad.

In the space of five decades, IPE has developed from a research and training organization to an internationally regarded educational institution with the launch of a two-year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM), in the year 1995, recognized as equivalent to MBA by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), to provide future leaders and professional managers. The Institute built a diverse portfolio of long-term programs as per the industry requirement and introduced two-year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Retail and Marketing (PGDM-RM) in 2007, Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Banking, Insurance and Financial Services (PGDM-BIF) in 2008, Post Graduate Diploma in Management – International Business (PGDM-IB) in 2009, Executive PGDM in 2009 and Post Graduate Diploma in Management – HRM in 2011, all recognized by AICTE.

Specialized assignments for various public enterprises including the NLC, MOIL, HCL, NMDC and state governments have been recently completed. The Institute has an outstanding record of delivering the inputs in time with application orientation. The Institute has carried outpublic sector/ service reformassignmentsconcerning various sectors, major Government departments, municipal services and poverty alleviation.

RESEARCH Research at IPE is devoted to systematic and sustained study of issues relevant to the formulation, implementation, review, monitoring and assessment of policies and programs concerning public enterprise and private firms. The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India recognized the Institute as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ in Social Science research in 1976. Research studies of IPE have been extensively used by the Committee of Public Undertakings (CO PU), several ministries of the Government of India, Planning Commission, SCOPE, Department of Public Enterprises, Comptroller and Auditor General of India and by Finance and Pay Revision committees.

Apart from handling research projects of government including ICSSR, DST and UGC, IPE also engages in collaborative research and has recently completed studies of ICSSR-IDRC on collaborative mode. Faculty of IPE constantly engage in conducting research projects of various granting agencies and publish research papers in peer reviewed journals and books.

There are dedicated research cells created at IPE to research on topical issues on contemporary domains – Centre for Corporate Governance (CCG), Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (CCSR), Centre for Governance and Public Policy (CG PP), Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development (CESD),Wage and Salary Studies

CONSULTANCY Undertaking consultancy assignments is one of the specialized domains of IPE. Consultancy services are offered for both National and International organizations, including the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), World Bank, Asian DevelopmentBank (ADB), Commonwealth Secretariat, Department for International Development (DFID), Government of UK, International Centerfor Promotion of Enterprises (IC PE), Central and State Governments, Public and Private sector enterprises.

IPE works closely with leading international think tanks and has supported the Performance Management Division (PMD), Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India in the conduct of the annual review meetings of the various ministries and department of the Government of India. IPE has contributed to the formation of Community of Practices (CoP), that focuses on Government Performance Management through peer assisted learning.

The institute entered into the Golden Jubilee year in 2014 marking a significant landmark in IPE’s journey. Over the years, IPE has led many prestigious assignments for various departments and ministries of the Government of India and for international organizations including the World Bank, IDRC and the UN. Dedicated centers of research at the institute focus on contemporary issues including Corporate Governance, CSR and sustainable development that aid in evidence based policy making. Accreditations from the NBA, SAQS and AIU articulate on the quality dimension of the various programmes.

Supply Chain Management, Cyber Security & Laws, Project Management, Information Technology, Operational Excellence, CSR, Leadership etc have been conducted for executives of MOIL, MECON Ltd., BHEL, Department of Animal Husbandry, SCCL, ECIL, Power grid, NTPC, Oil India Ltd, NLC, BDL, TSRTC, APSRTC, LIC, NMDC, IOCL etc and officersofdifferentdepartmentsofGovernmentsof Telangana, AP, Karnataka andMaharashtra.A few programs on Research Methodology for researchers also were conducted last year. Participants in the various programs have come from all the levels: from Jr. Executives to CMDs. IPE’s Training activities have added good value to its participants and have gained good acceptance from its clients that is backed by the increasing number of programs that we have been doing each year.

Cell (WSS), Cell on regulatory bodies, Cell onRisk Management (CRM) and Centre for Public Enterprises and Disinvestment (CPD). The ONGC Subir Raha Chair on CCG and the Neyveli Lignite Corporation Chair on CCSR have been instituted to undertake research, consultancy and training in the respective areas.

TRAININGThe Institute has been organizing Training Programs for the past 50 years for officers ofPublic Sector, Private Sector, State and Central Government undertakings. IPE has conducted nearly 100 programs for over 1,600 IAS, IFS and othergovernmentofficers. IPEhas trainedover50000 practicing managers in various types of programs over the years. During 2015-16, about 55 programs were conducted including 20 in company programs which are customized programs to suit the needs of various organizations. How The Journey Began

With the experience gained in Research,Consultancy and Training activities and taking into consideration the ever-increasing need for professionally trained personnel by the industry, IPE started MBA (PE), a part-time evening program, in 1981-82 being conducted at IPE OU Campus.Theprogram,affiliatedtotheOsmaniaUniversity and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), is tailored to meet the specific needs of practicing managers. The selection of candidates is through the Integrated Common Entrance Test (ICET) of the Government of Telangana.

Since its inception more than 1,000 executives havepursuedtheMBA(PE)program.Withthissuccess, in 1995 the Institute started a two-year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), recognized as equivalent to MBA by the Association of Indian Universities, to provide

skilled human resources to meet the growing requirements of the Industry.

Keepinginviewthechangingvariedrequirementsof the Industry, the Institute offers Six courses viz., PGDM, PGDM-RM, PGDM-BIF, PGDM-IB, PGDM-HRM & Ex-PGDM. All these courses are approved by AICTE and four of these courses received MBA equivalence from Association of Indian Universities and three of these courses have NBA accrediation also. Our Institute received SAQS accreditation also recently. The selection of candidates for all these courses is through CAT, MAT, XAT, ATMA, CMAT & GMAT.

However, Institute takes care to give due weightage to academic background and GDPI Process in addition to the test score obtained. Since inception more than 2,000 students have graduated from IPE and are placed in reputed organizations.

Library and Documentation Centre The Institute’s Library has a rich collection of 52,000 documents, which includes books, research reports and bound journal volumes. The Library receivesmorethan300NationalandInternationalJournals.

The Library is the knowledge hub of the Institute of Public Enterprise. It reflects the institutes’ commitment to providing the best possible library and information services to its world-class community of faculty, students and staff. It is a major resource for management information which includes books, DVDs, journal articles and also government reports like Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), Government of India, the Annual Survey of Public Enterprises brought out by the Ministry of Industry, Government of India and also the evaluation reports brought out by the different State Bureau of Public Enterprises. It has an excellent collection of both printed and electronic material. It offers a range of services including reference and consultation, membership and circulation, document delivery, resource sharing, information alert service, book bank for all the student community, user awareness programmes and web based services. The library is the heart of the Institute’s academic, research and outreach activities

The Institute provides internet facility through leased line of 40Mbps(1:1) forfast,reliableanduninterruptedinternet services. The entire IPE campus has been Wi-Fienabledprovidingroundtheclockinternetaccess to its students and employees.

Research Centres at IPE

Centre for Corporate GovernanceThe Centre for Corporate Governance aims at providing policy inputs to industry, government and executives. The ONGC Subir Raha Chair was instituted on the Centre, which has worked on standardizing the existing body of knowledge of corporate governance in order to catalyze the practice as well as further research. Research on Board Diversity, Board training and other parameters of corporate governance is being carried out apart from organizing annual international conferences.

Centre for Corporate Social ResponsibilityThe Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (CCSR) works on the existing body of knowledge, systems, structures, models and mechanisms associated with different CSR initiatives; it also provides a platform for discussing CSR guidelines and the latest developments in the field. The centre conducts baseline surveys, impact assessment studies apart from research on sector specific CSR initiatives. The centre has recently completed a national study from the ICSSR, MHRD.

Centre for Public Enterprises and DisinvestmentThe centre conducts research studies on public enterprises (Central, Local, Municipal and Global), develop and maintains a data bank on the Central and the State Level Enterprises. The centre also brings out books, monographs and research papers on contemporary issues by focusing on state-wise studies.

Centre for Governance and Public PolicyThe centre for Governance and Public Policy, set up in 2010, focuses on areas of public policy, public administration (focus on civil services reforms) and service delivery (social accountability tools: Citizens charters, RTI Act, Report cards). This centre has worked with the Performance Management Division, Cabinet Secretariat, GOI and has completed projects for the Department of IT, Government of AP, Assessment of Mee Seva project and the PM’s Trophy Project for ‘Best Integrated Steel Plant in India’.

Centre for Infrastructure RegulationMany regulatory commissions have been formed in various sectors such as power, telecom, banking and insurance. Since the formation of regulatory bodies there has been a debate on their functioning and on their real independence. This Research Cell has been constituted to conduct research on issues in these areas. The cell engages in conducting research andorganizingnational/internationalconferences.

Centre for Environment and Sustainable DevelopmentThis Centre aims to promote education, training, research and consultancy assignments and document case studies in thrust areas of ‘Environment’ and ‘Sustainable Development’. It reviews the state of Sustainable development initiatives in PEs and studying its impact on society in general and PEs in particular. Apart from organizing conferences on contemporary practices and issues in this area, the centre has initiated discussions for collaborations with Australia India council for research projects and areas of policy interventions for developing ‘Liveable Cities’.

Centre for Corporate Risk ManagementThe Cell has been set up at IPE to promote training, research, education, consultancy assignments and document practical case studies in thrust areas of enterprise risk management. The cell intends to develop and enhance professional expertise and understanding of mechanism of designing and usage of various risk mitigating options and strategies available to a given organization. The centre has conducted a number of training programmes in this area and is currently working on developing a framework for Enterprise Risk management.

Wage and Salary Studies CellThis Cell has been constituted to conduct studies on compensation administration and management. It brings out papers on related issues and carries out research and consultancy studies. It also helps organizations to optimize their performance by ensuring a robust performance management system and effective compensation administration.

The Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programme offered by the Institute of Public Enterprise is a two year programme and was launched in 1995. It is approved by the All India Council of Technical Education and the Association of Indian Universities. Summer Internship At the end of the three trimesters, the students of the various two year post-graduate programmes at the Institute of Public Enterprise are expected to undertake a 8 week study at a commercial, corporate, consultancy or government organization. The exposure at the organizations would help the students to familiarize themselves with organizational realities and put to test the theoretical knowledge obtained during the first three trimesters.

At the end of the 8 week internship students are required to generate a report. The students are guided by the faculty members of the Institute in the making of the report.

Samathi Samathi is an ideal platform where experience meets enthusiasm hence called ‘Meeting of the Finest Minds’. Samathi’s are organized annually as a series of events focusing on various functional domains that provides students a forum to interact with the captains of the corporate world. Intra collegiate competitions are conducted on the aspects like paper presentations, quiz, cross words, best manager, best sales man and woman, JAM, painting, etc. to sharpen the skills. This year during first week of March competitions were focusing on various domains such as Finance, Operations, HR and Marketing and Guests from various business establishments came and shared their thoughts, knowledge and experiences.

A total of 97 teams registered for Startupedia of which 52 ideas were shortlisted on the basis of their abstracts and ideas. A total of 25 ideas were selected to present their B-Plans after scrutiny over their complete B-Plans.

Placement Program The Class of 2017

Placement Committee

The Placement Committee of the Institute contacts and assists the companies in the recruitment process. The Committee comprises the Chairman – Placement Committee, Placement Coordinator and all PG Coordinators. The Student Placement Committee assists this Committee. The Placement Coordinator is the convener of the Placement Committee.

The students will be allowed to report to their duties from end of December 2016 onwards, depending on the need of the recruiter. To confirm participation, the organizations are requested to complete the Placement Response Sheet provided at the end of this brochure and mail it back at the earliest to enable early allotment of dates.

Guidelines for Final Placements

The following guidelines have been framed by the Institute to ensure transparent participation in the placement activities for the Class of 2017. Your cooperation will be highly appreciated.

• Details regarding the organization’s placementrequirements can be forwarded to the Placement Coordinator. These details are essential for scheduling the placement process.

• Information about the company in the form ofbrochures, pamphlets, write-ups, etc., may be sent to the Placement Coordinator along with the job profile.

• Pre-Placement talks will be held at the Instituteduring which the companies make presentations about their operations and job profile.

• The Placement Coordinator will forward to theorganization the Curriculum Vitae of all the interested students to participate in the placement process.

• Therecruitmentprocesswillbeheldinthecampus,but if the organization wishes that the students should come to their office, this requirement canalso be met.

• Thecompanymustdeclaretheresultswhileonthecampus.

• Once a student accepts an offer he/she is noteligible to participate in the further selection process of any other company.
