Week 4 Term 3
Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to start this week by thanking and congratulating all of our students, teachers and parents/
carers for our Education Week activities last week. We were all thrilled to see so many visitors to both our
classrooms and our Open Day Concert. I know that the students and teachers have been busily preparing for
the concert over many weeks. Thank you also to Stage 2 students and families for providing us with so many
delicious cakes for our Cake Stall.
Yesterday, our Stage 3 students (Years 5&6) departed for their three day camp at the Sport and Recreation
Academy in Narrabeen. The students have been very excited and I know they will return with many fabulous
stories from the activities and adventures they'll partake in. A special thank you to Mrs Thorn, Miss Crowe
and Mr Stroud for accompanying our students while leaving their own family and friends behind.
My congratulations to both of our debating teams for their recent successes against other schools. Their
performances, sportsmanship and dedication to practices should be congratulated. Thank you also to
Mrs Marone and Mr Stroud for coordinating and preparing our two teams. Did you know that Team Erudite
is undefeated? A magnificent effort!
As part of our commitment to the directions outlined in our School Plan, last week the Promotions Team
under Miss Smajlagic's coordination met to discuss communication needs and opportunities across our
school. I'm looking forward to seeing some of their initiatives come to fruition where the intention is to
ensure that through strong communication avenues, mums and dads will be better informed and connected
to their child's learning at our school. In the immediate future, this will include a revamp of our school
newsletter and relook at our school website page.
Coming up in Week 5, we will be holding our School Photo Days. Further information has been sent home
and is also available at the office. Mrs Marone is our photo coordinator again this year.
Lastly, with last week's stranger danger incident, I have been in close contact with Holroyd Police, the
Department's Safety and Security Unit and Ringrose District Office to continue to look at ways to keep our
site safe. Interim measures for both student safety and driveway access will include both District Office
driveway gates to be closed from the hours of 8:30am to 3:30pm. Our back Pedestrian gate in Damien
Avenue will continue to be closed between the hours of 9:15am and 2:45pm. Our own Staff Carpark fence
and accompanying pedestrian gate close at 9:15am.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Loughhead
(Principal)

Earn and Learn Initiative. Students can return sticker sheets in the
Woolworths box set up in our office area. We also have a box set up at
Woolworths Greystanes and Pemulwuy. I would encourage everyone to help
the school as valuable resources will be purchased for the school at the end of this initiative.
Sticker sheets can be collected from the School Office, your local Woolworths or can be printed
online.

Promotions Committee- Online Survey

engagement with the school community. The team members include Miss Smajlagic, Miss Sayers, Mrs Thorn and Miss
Couper as well as a P&C representative, Mrs Rich, and a parent representative, Mrs Whittaker. We are starting by
looking at the school newsletter. We would love to get your thoughts on the current newsletter and have put together
a short survey online to get your feedback. If you go to the link below you will be asked a few short questions about the
newsletter. Your identity will remain anonymous. We value the feedback from our community and would like to thank
you in advance for your feedback and support!

ThinkUKnow is an internet safety initiative which aims to raise
awareness of the issues which young people face online and whilst
using mobile phones. It is a partnership between the Australia Federal
Police and Microsoft Australia, and is now proudly supported by Ninemsn and Datacom.
Ringrose Public School will be hosting a ThinkUKnow presentation on Wednesday 19 August at
5:30pm in the school library and all parents, carers and teachers are encouraged to attend. This
presentation will cover topics such as how young people are using technology to have fun, online
grooming, cyberbullying, inappropriate content and e-security.
This is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn more about how young people have fun online, how
you can help them to stay in control on the net, and how to report a problem.
For more information, you can visit the ThinkUKnow Australia website at www.thinkuknow.org.au.
We look forward to seeing you all at the presentation.
ThinkUKnow Parent Information Presentations
(Internet Safety Initiative)
On Monday the 27th of July, the Year 5 debating team went up
against Fairfield West Public School in the Premier's Debating
Challenge. Our topic was "That Students in Year 5 should be
allowed to vote in elections". We were the negative team. We had
some great arguments such as "Kids aren't old enough to make
the right choices", "They will just vote how their parents want
them to vote", "Most won't take it seriously", etc. We won this
debate against some tough Year 6 opposition and were
congratulated on a well structured case!
