Introduction
Wireline Engineering has developed a unique advanced roller technology and has engineered
this into a series of innovative and functionally diverse conveyance products that allow
intervention toolstrings to be run with virtually no frictional drag. Roller systems from
Wireline Engineering have become established in the international oil & gas community as
the preferred means of transferring wireline or coiled tubing toolstrings to required depth in
deviated and tortuous wellbores. With an extensive track record spanning six continents,
successful operations have been performed at inclinations up to 86 and at depths below
22000 feet (6700 m).
Installed strategically at critical points within the toolstring, Roller Systems not only lift and
eliminate friction between other tools and the tubing surfaces but have also been developed
to accommodate and transfer hydraulic, electrical or ballistic systems allowing complete
flexibility for integration and optimum positioning.
Features include
self-orientation to place the large rollers on the low side of the tubing, every time
unique and highly efficient double-tandem rollers cope with all internal upsets
and profiles
integral swivel systems to accommodate toolstring flexibility and to keep the rollers
continuously on the low side
robust design for operational reliability
streamlined design for minimum resistance through fluids
can be readily redressed in the field
available for most tubing sizes
These tools are proprietary and are not available from other sources. Patents are applied for.

Roller Bogies can be used during production logging operations to create a virtually
frictionless toolstring, allowing the assembly to be conveyed efficiently in and out
of the well, even at elevated deviations. For optimum effect, Roller Bogies should
be positioned at regular intervals along the length of the toolstring and Wireline
Engineering has designed a range of advanced Roller Bogie products for use in most
types of electric line application, including Cable Weight Roller Bogies, Cable Head
Roller Bogies, Mono-Conductor Roller Bogies, Multi-Conductor Roller Bogies and
Roller Guide Bogies.

Hydraulic Applications
7
Setting Inflatable Packers in deviated wellbores can be made a great deal easier
with the introduction of Hydraulic Roller Bogies from Wireline Engineering. Power
fluid is pumped directly through the Hydraulic Roller Bogie, positioned between the
reservoir and the Packer Assembly. When run in combination with Cable Weight
Roller Bogies, Cable Head Roller Bogies and Mono-Conductor Roller Bogies these
tools present a solution for most types of inflatable packer toolstrings. A Roller
Guide Bogie can also be positioned at the bottom of the toolstring and would be left
in the well below the Packer.

Perforating Applications
9
Wireline Engineerings Roller Bogie system can make deviated perforating
operations much easier by greatly reducing frictional drag between the perforating
assembly and the tubing wall. In addition to the Cable Head Roller Bogies and
Selective Perforating Roller Bogies run at the top of the toolstring, Ballistic Roller
Bogies are also placed between guns as an integral part of the perforating system.
Ballistic Roller Bogies have dedicated perforating gun connections and transfer the
detonating cord through an inner mandrel, having the strength to withstand
detonation and becoming an integral part of the gun assembly.
Plugs and Packers that require setting by means of ballistics can make use of the
Cable Weight Roller Bogie, Cable Head Roller Bogie and Mono-Conductor Roller
Bogies positioned above the Plug or Packer as required. When run in conjunction
with a Selective Perforating Roller Bogie positioned between the setting tool and
the CCL, this provides excellent access to deviated well bores.

Wireline Cutting Applications
11
The Roller Bogie Drop Bar and Cutter from Wireline Engineering provides a ready
solution in straight and deviated wells where it is necessary to cut wireline up to
5/16" diameter. Both the Roller Bogie Cutter and Drop Bar can be dressed for wire
sizes from 0.092" slicklines right up to 5/16" braided cables. The cutter is attached
to the cable at surface and dropped on to the rope socket of the stuck tool, although
a proprietary safety mechanism prevents the cutter from functioning prematurely at
this stage. The Drop Bar is then attached to the wire and dropped to impact upon
the Cutter assembly, in so doing, releasing the cutter to actuate and cut the wire.
Having simultaneously locked on to the free wire, both tools are then recovered on
the wire when it is pulled to surface.

Slickline Roller Bogie Slickline Assemblies
13
Unlike conventional methods Slickline Roller Bogies are placed at strategic points along thewhole length of a wireline toolstring to lift the entire assembly up off the low side of thetubing and on to large rollers. This allows the complete toolstring to be rolled in and out ofthe well with virtually no frictional drag, even at near-horizontal wellbore inclinations. Theunique design causes the Roller Bogies to align themselves independently as they enter thewell bore, ensuring the rollers are in contact with the tubing at all times.
Applications For use in all wireline intervention operations using slickline or braided wire. For use in all tubing sizes, materials and coatings Field proven in wells with deviations up to 86 degrees Better protection and smoother transportation for gauges during surveys More effective jarring when setting and pulling deep-set plugs and other flow control devices
Features Patented egg shape body to position rollers on low side every time Dual rollers distribute load and reduce wear Grease points on rollers and swivels for lubrication and maintenance Specialised wiper system to prevent sand ingress but allow pressure equalisation Supplied with sucker rod or quick lock connections
Benefits Reduces toolstring friction against the tubing wall while running in and pulling out and alleviates slack wire Reduces pick-up weights and risk of wire breakages Provides smoother runs with more accurate weight indication, especially in deviated wells Enhances toolstring manipulation during jarring operations Gets deeper into deviated well bores than any other roller system Faster interventions in and out of hole Makes it easier to get round severe doglegs Reduces the need for costly tractor or coiled tubing operations Protects other tool-string components from frictional wear Protects completion tubulars especially plastic coating and high chrome content

Slickline Drift Run 14500 FeetOffshore Platform 76 Inclination
A drift run was made with slickline Roller Bogies to investigate possible obstructions
following a tractor run that had been unable to progress beyond 14350 feet. The Roller Bogie
assembly passed the tractor limit by 150 feet to complete the drift run, demonstrating an
operational improvement and significant cost savings compared with a tractor at sub-
horizontal inclinations.
Slickline Drift Run / Gauge Run 9865 FeetOffshore Platform 84 Inclination
A slickline assembly including three Roller Bogies was run, firstly as part of a drift toolstring
and then to convey gauges to depth. The first run included a 3" Fluted Centraliser which
reached 9,865 feet BSV at max deviation. Second run included a set of downhole memory
gauges and reached 9,850 feet BSV. Only three Roller Bogies were used instead of the four
that were recommended but still achieved excellent results at near-horizontal inclination.
Slickline Bailer Run 14300 FeetOffshore Platform 82 Inclination
Slickline Roller Bogies were run in a bailer toolstring to remove debris from the top of a Baker
WG Bridge Plug. The debris was successfully removed and the Plug was retrieved from the
well. The Roller Bogies significantly reduced frictional drag and allowed excellent jar control
and enhanced wire performance. This successful application of Roller Bogie technology
allowed the customer to avoid the high costs associated with Coiled Tubing operations.
Slickline Fishing Run 12345 FeetOffshore Platform 83 Inclination
Four slickline Roller Bogies were used in a successful fishing operation to retrieve a toolstring
after the wire had parted at the rope socket while pulling through the safety valve and then
dropped to 12,345ft. Another example of effective slickline operations at extreme deviations
without recourse to the high cost and complication of tractor equipment.
Slickline Gauge Run 13675 FeetOffshore Platform 86 Inclination
Slickline Roller Bogies were used to run downhole memory gauges on 0.125 slickline.
A depth of 13,675 ft with a deviation of 86 was successfully achieved in a well that built up
from 70 at 13,550 ft to 90 at 13,747 ft a dogleg severity of 10.2/100 feet. This
represents a World Record for maximum wellbore inclination accessed with an unassisted
wireline toolstring one of many wells where Roller Bogies have been used at wellbore
inclinations in excess of 80 degrees.
Electric Line Perforating Run 14000 FeetOffshore Platform 78 Inclination
Avoiding the high cost of a tractor, Electric Line Roller Bogies were selected for this
perforating operations using 2 7/8" wireline guns. The guns made a trouble-free run to target
depth and were fired successfully.
Production Logging Run 23000 FeetOffshore Platform 76 Inclination
A well with known problems running toolstrings to required depth. Electric Line Roller Bogies
were used to convey a Production Logging string to 23000 feet a testing combination of
extreme depth and high inclination. The PLT was performed with no complications and
required depths were reached at the first attempt, incorporating several logging passes.
These Roller Bogies were used as an alternative to running a high-cost tractor, which was on
standby but was not required.

The Roller Bogie Cutter and Roller Bogie Drop Bar are used in combination tocut wire or braided cable that has become stuck in the well. The cutter and dropbar are then retrieved on the cut wire.
The Roller Bogie Cutter is attached to the wire and dropped to locate at the planned cutting
depth. It incorporates a unique advanced interface mechanism to prevent the cutter from
actuating prematurely. The Roller Bogie Drop Bar is subsequently attached to the wire and
dropped to impact upon the cutter, causing the rotating knife mechanism to make the cut
and simultaneously trap the wire so that both wire and tools are retrieved together to surface.
Both tools have been designed with the same features as Wireline Engineerings Roller Bogie
systems to facilitate use in highly deviated and long reach well bores. These features greatly
enhance the ability of the tools to transfer efficiently to the required depth.
The Roller Bogie Cutter and Drop Bar are designed to cut and retrieve all sizes of wire or cable
from 0.092" up to and including 5/16".
Applications When wire or cable becomes stuck When jar action fails When cable head weak point fails When releasable rope socket fails
Features Simple and safe operation when attaching to wire or cable Interface impact hammer mechanism to prevent premature activation Patented egg shape body to position rollers on low side every time Unique shaped rollers track the tubing and cut through debris Streamline bogie contours to avoid hanging up or damaging restrictions, up-sets or entry guides Dual rollers set in tandem for tool stability and straddling profiles or recesses Dual rollers distribute load and reduce wear Robust construction with easy on site repair of worn parts Grease points on rollers for lubrication and maintenance Wiper system to prevent sand ingress but allow pressure equalisation Rotating knife for optimum shearing force Tapered wedge to trap wire or cable and return tool to surface. Suitable for cutting wire sizes 0.092" to 5/16"
Benefits Save time and cost during awkward fishing operations Allows wire cutting in deviated wells where kenetic energy is reduced Eliminate risks associated with ballistic cutters Operates deeper in deviated well bores than any other system Allows on site redress of tool and roller system to recover new-tool efficiency and optimise investment Protects completion tubulars especially plastic coating and high chrome content

Bailers - Rollerised Enhanced Rollerised Tools
29
Rollerised Bailers are generally used to remove unwanted solids or debris fromthe well bores. Different types of bailers are available to perform variousspecific operations as required. Dump Bailers are used to deposit chemicals atspecific locations; Pump Bailers and Hydrostatic Bailers are used to capture andretain fluids, solids or debris by means of mechanical action or pressuredifferential. The integral roller mechanisms lift the bailer off the tubing wall andreduce frictional drag, allowing the bailer to reach depths and operateefficiently at inclinations not normally accessible with non-rollerised tools. Allbailers are available in various standard sizes and can be supplied withconnection to suit specific requirements. Specialised bottom subs are availableto cover all types of application.
The Dump Bailer is a carrying vessel used to transport and disperse chemicals at required
downhole locations, such as spotting acid to remove scale. The Pump Bailer incorporates a
stroking piston that sucks on the upward stroke, drawing material such as sand or debris into
a retention chamber for removal from the well. The Hydrostatic Bailer uses a sealed
atmospheric chamber which, when functioned downhole and exposed to well pressure,
causes debris or fluids to be drawn into a retention chamber by differential pressure.
Applications spotting chemicals at specific locations general sand bailing scale sampling debris retrieval debris retrieval during fishing operations
Features rollerised mechanisms for well entry at high inclinations rollerised mechanisms for efficient tool operation at depth modular design allows easy specialization for operator needs
Benefits Easier and more effective running and pulling during bailing operations Controlled deposit and more effective use of chemicals Better spotting capability and therefore less chemical required Maximum debris collection per well intervention Reduces pick up weights and risk of wire breakages More reliable operation in deviated wells Reduced operation time, lower operational costs

The Lock-On Roller Sleeve is used to reduce frictional drag on productionlogging toolstring assemblies. The roller subs are simply attached at any pointof the toolstring by slipping them over and tightening each end cap. The sleeveis locked on to the toolstring by slips that are actuated by an internal taper andlocked in place with grub screws. The Roller Sub has barrel rollers that give thetoolstring better running and pulling abilities, and allow access to higherdeviated well bores. The Roller Sub can be used in conjunction with a similarsized Roller Bogie in various toolstring combinations
Applications Production logging Motorised packer setting All standard electric line logging runs
Features Slips over logging toolstring to give optimum roller coverage Utilises existing tool string connection between over cable weights 360 barrel-roller coverage ensures maximum contact with tubing Streamline contours to avoid hanging up in restrictions or upsets Robust construction
Benefits Minimizes risk of insulation failure in the toolstring due to non-inline design Reduces toolstring to tubing friction running in and alleviates slack wire Reduces pick-up weights and risk of wire breakages Provides smoother runs with more accurate weight indication Gets deeper into deviated well bores Faster interventions in and out of hole Makes it easier to get round severe doglegs Reduces the need for costly tractor or coiled tubing operations Protects other tool-string components from running wear Protects completion tubulars especially plastic coating and high chrome

The Kick Over Tool conversion is designed to make it easier and more reliable torun and pull gas lift mandrel accessories by making the orientation of the KickOver Tool smoother and more effective. The modifications are of particularadvantage in wells with high deviation or difficult wellbore geometry, where highpick up weights are experienced. The modifications add an improved tray, rollerswivels and integral valve catcher, allowing quick analysis of a dropped valvesituation. The conversion is available for a wide range of tool design and sizes.
Applications Gas lift valve change out operations Dummy valve change out after well completion Investigative or fishing operations around a side pocket mandrel
Features Upper and lower roller subs used to reduce friction while the tool is being run or retrieved Upper and lower swivels, to give smoother tool orientation A more rigid centralised and balanced tray Integral valve catcher for dropped valves
Benefits Easier and more effective running and pulling of gas lift and dummy valves Smoother orientation to locate trigger Reduces pick up weights and risk of wire breakages More reliable operation in deviated wells Integral valve catcher saves separate run for investigation of dropped valve Less down time, lower operational costs
