She and Al Smith will host the group. The address is 120 Bayona Dr. Santa Cruz. Remember, please park on the street. Come and enjoy the awesome view and a great time with your Rotary pals! Last Week’s Meeting I rode my bicycle to club last week and it was a fun ride. With the new bridge over the river, it's easy to ride along the levee and the right on up to Elks'. We had the “A” team meeting, greeting and providing music. Elizabeth Clifton provided the raffle gift which was won by Gerry Turgeon (#967332). The gift was a set of tickets to the Giants game. We had a Sunshine Committee report on Wade Nittler and Eric Easter. Please put out positive energy, prayers and lots of good thoughts for Eric and Beatrice Easter, it's been tough for Eric and he's been such a great member here with us. We're lucky to have him as a member.
Russ Hobbs is offering a free ride in his motorhome for those planning to tailgate and attend the A's game on September 7th. The club has 20 free tickets, so see Ian if you'd like to go. It should be a great time and the A's are “swingin” Sharon Caiocca gave a report on the Cowell Beach Clean-‐up that happens every Monday. The group meets at 8:00 and they work for about an hour. All you need to do is bring energy and a pair of gloves. The effort is moving into an improvement project and will include plantings of native plants and so forth. See Sharon if you'd like to join in. Bryan Williams served as detective and did a great job with a very well produced and executed game of Rotary Jeopardy. Bob Rittenhouse dumped all kinds of money in the bucket as he was slowly tortured by Detective Williams. Great job Bryan, very well planned and your delivery was top notch! Our speaker was Kendra Baker from the Penny Ice Creamery. She was an enthusiastic speaker who was well prepared and quite engaging. Her topic was about her business and the interest she has for foods and combining flavors. I was impressed by her for many reasons; most notably was her ability to effectively communicate the love she has for her vocation. She has the drive that comes from a passionate heart and she conveyed that in her address to the club. I was inspired. She not only spoke well, she brought strawberry ice cream covered in dark chocolate on a stick. Then she proceeded to give us all kinds of good information on some of her favorite ingredients.
Kendra showcased Lemon Verbena – An herb which goes well with sweet or savory dishes, Wild Fennel which she pairs with Peaches or other stone fruits and is something we can all forage right around our own homes. She talked about Bay Leaves and how she combines them with caramel or incorporates them into crème brulee or with lentils or wintergreen. Club Calendar September 6 – Dist. Gov. Angie Hassler September 7 – Rotary Day at the A’s September 11 – Club Board Meeting October 17 – Avenues of Service BBQ October 18 – Club BBQ – No Noon Mtg Spokes Editors for 8/23 – 9/6 Sharon Caiocca and Hank Olsen volunteered to serve as substitute Spokes editors while I’m out of town on another vacation. Sharon will handle the 8/23 and 8/30 meetings while Hank will handle the 9/6 and 9/13 meetings. Please make sure to send interesting items to Sharon and Hank so they can produce an excellent Spokes product for the club. Blaine’s Email – It’s incorrect in the Directory b_brokaw@sbcglobal.net Don’t Forget to bring clean new underwear and socks for the District Governor meeting!! September 7.
