The Musings of Pastor Jimmy
Hello Friends,
I have had the most fun preaching the Love Revolution series as it has really challenged me in my own walk with Jesus. We have talked and will continue to focus on the power of prayer as we continue this series. I wanted to take this opportunity to share some tips on strengthening your walk with God.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.” Philippians 4:6-7
1. Write Your Prayers Down
I started writing down my prayers after I had my first foot surgery. It was a way of helping me think clearly and record what I shared with God. The great benefit of doing this is when you look back at your prayers from a year ago and see how God has been working in your life.
2. Pictures
We live in such a visual world, why not use this as part of your prayer life. Take picture of people and situations that you want to remember to pray for. Over time you will scroll through these pictures and it will be a reminder to pray.
3. Pray the Scriptures
There is nothing that delights the Lord more than to pray His Word and claim the promises that abide within. An example of this is Psalm 23 when you’re afraid. This will also encourage you to read the Bible to see what these promises are.
4. Pray in Your Voice
God knows we don’t speak in Thee’s and Thou’s so don’t do it in your prayers. Simply talk to God like he was physically sitting with you at your dining room table. It may feel weird, but the more you pray the more natural spending time with God in prayer will become.
5. Look at the way Jesus prayed
There is no better example of how to pray than how Jesus prayed. Again, this will encourage you to dive into the scriptures and really meditate on how we as Christians should talk to God.
Keep Loving One Another!
