Built exactly where Solomon’s Temple and the second temple’s

Holy of Holies were built and destroyed.

The rock inside is where Abraham was tested by God to

sacrifice his son, Isaac.

Originally built in 360 CE.

Burnt down in 404.

Rebuilt in 415, burned down in 532.

Reconstruction began ½ a month after it was destroyed in 532, and it was completed in 537.

In 1453, the Christian church was conquered by Muslims.

They covered the Christian mosaics with plaster.

In 1935, the plaster was removed, and the mosque is now

a museum!
