South African Scenario

• SACat – South African National Union Catalogue– In early 2000 was incorporated into WorldCat and currently

reflected as a group catalogue

– Is a subset of WorldCat (WorldCat group catalogue)

• SACat is the basis in South Africa for– Cooperative cataloguing

– Resource sharing (Interlibrary Loans)

– Online reference

• WorldCat Discovery Services– In the process of implementation at 22 Academic Libraries

• WorldShare Interlibrary Loan– Implemented at 19 Academic Libraries using the service for

International Interlending

• WorldShare Metadata Management– Will start in mid 2014 to migrate 200+ libraries using OCLC Connexion

• WorldShare License Manager– Implemented at the University of Pretoria
