A day as Jesus
“When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases…” MK1:32-34 One of the most enriching contributions of Mark's Gospel this weekend is letting us know about a day's work of Jesus. It's like having access to their agenda. There are intense activities that alternate with moments of rest, dialogues with the crowds, as well as smaller groups, action and prayer. We can see in this liturgical Sunday three spaces where Jesus acts and leaves us his teaching. An important place of evangelization was the synagogue, meeting place of the Jews as community of faith. A second area of pastoral activity of Jesus was His friends and family’s home. Today's Gospel shows us interacting with the family of Peter, who had recently been linked to His immediate group. Jesus gave great importance to these moments of intimacy and privacy thus providing divine dimension to the links of affection and friendship . And thirdly, Jesus performed his pastoral work in the streets. Public space, which is spoken by our town planners, constituted a third stage to the proposal of coexistence based on love and justice. The generous use Jesus made of these three spaces (the cultic, family and the public) shows that religious experience is not confined to the walls of churches and convents. No. known and unknown world, the city with its plazas and malls, is the big stage in which God touches the hearts of humans. How did Jesus present Himself that He moved with such familiarity in the synagogue, in family homes and in the public square? Jesus revealed himself as the great promoter of life: Jesus healed the sick, cared for widows attended those excluded from society. Where Jesus is present there is deliverance from slavery, grown in humanity, the offering of salvation is discovered. Jesus has the ability to transform pain into health, loneliness in to shared joy, community exclusion in to integration, doubt into certainty. If such was the climate that radiated gestures and words of Jesus, all evangelizing activity of the Church must be a hymn to life, an invitation to joy and optimism. Take the example of Jesus to make every day by day of praise inspired by prayer and fruitful action.
Have a Blessed Weekend
