"For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be God’s will, than for doing evil.” (1 Peter 3:17)
The old line says “if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.” Many of us are diligent in our planning and making sure things are progressing smoothly. Then disaster strikes, we don’t get the result that was intended
or an unforeseen problem arises. Many times we may respond negatively and ask, “Why me? I did everything right!” Here’s the thing – adversity humbles us and reminds us of our dependence on God and not on our own self-reliance. Rest assured, God has a better plan in store for you.

Those who the Community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. A message to the 2020 graduates of St. Joseph Parish:
Dear Parents of 2020 Graduates,
When your child walked through the doors of high school as a freshman, I am sure they were full of optimism and excitement. As they began their senior year this fall, I am sure they were ready to take in all of the memories that the senior year would bring—homecomings, college acceptance letters, prom, final sports seasons, graduation, and graduation parties.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought on significant disruption to life as we know it. I am sure you and your senior are incredibly disappointed.
In years past, St Josephs has offered a Baccalaureate Mass to honor our seniors and pray for them before they begin their new endeavors.
While we will not be able to host a Baccalaureate Mass this Spring, I still want to celebrate the 2020 graduates.
The St. Joseph staff is asking for parents to please email a picture and a small note about their upcoming plans of each senior. We will post this information on our website, Facebook page, and bulletin in the weeks to come. We also will plan on a Blessing for Graduates to happen sometime in early August. Go to https://saintjosephplaincity.com/graduation to submit your information.
Additionally, Bishop Brennan on the 27th of May, will celebrate a Baccalaureate Mass for Diocesan Seniors. This started as a combined Mass for the Seniors of our Catholic High Schools, but grew to be an opportunity for all our Seniors to celebrate their High School Graduations in Prayer. This will be live streamed that evening. Details will be forthcoming.
Although our seniors might not have a baccalaureate mass or walk across that graduation stage, let us use this time to remind our families of God's love for them and His desire for them to use their gifts to love and serve in these months and years to come.
Pope Benedict XVI said, "You were not made for comfort; you were made for greatness." Let us pray for our seniors that they rise to the greatness God has called each of them too.
Thank you for helping us honor our class of 2020!
