Project System Features

Project Definition :

Binding framework for all organizational elements within a project.

You can also define non-binding start and finish dates for the project

Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) Elements

Model of the project that organizes project tasks into a hierarchy.

Functional basis for further planning of process, cost, scheduling, capacity planning or costing as well as projects control.

Gives a clear picture of the project and facilitates the coordination.

Project Systems - Network

• Sequence of activities in a project

• Networks are used as a basis for planning, analyzing, controlling and

monitoring schedules, dates and resources

• Special type of work order that has the same structure as production

orders, maintenance orders, and inspection orders in the R/3 System.

Project Systems - Activity

Activity:

They have following characteristics:• They have a duration. • They have a defined start and a defined finish. . • Resources are needed to execute them. • They incur costs

Activities generally defined as –• Internal Activity• External Activity• General Cost Activity

Project Planning Board

You obtain an overview about the hierarchy and progress of your project

· You can see interrelationships in the organization & the schedule.

· You can access all the important data in your project.· Calculate costs · Plan and check dates · Plan and schedule resources · Define and distribute work · Level capacities · Make assignments· Simulate changes· Branch to Further graphics, for instance network structure

graphic, hierarchy graphic etc. · Further planning boards in capacity planning · Costs and capacity reports in the Project Information System

Cost

You use this component to plan, monitor, and control project costs, thereby achieving comprehensive cost accounting.

Dates

The purpose of date scheduling is to determine the duration of phases in a project, which events are particularly important for the schedule, float times, and critical paths. You enter dates in the work breakdown structures and individual networks. You can check and change them in all stages of a project

Project Resources

Resources

Use this component to plan the resources required for the work that is carried out internally in a project. That is work that is not procured externally via purchasing

Project Material Planning

Material

Use this component to plan and monitor the material requirements and costs in projects, to control the flow of materials and for scheduling.

Project Documents

You can use document management to make documents available throughout your business, and link them with SAP objects from different business areas. In the Project System, you can link documents with WBS elements, activities, and material components. So, for example, you can display technical drawings directly in your project.

Confirmations

Confirmations document the state of processing for activities and activity elements in a network, and can be used to forecast progress in the future. Precise confirmations are very important for realistic and accurate project planning

You control the following business functions via confirmations:

• Reduction of work center capacity load Update of the actual costs based on the confirmed data Update of network data, such as duration, work, and status Update of dates for WBS elements Back flushing and unplanned withdrawals of material components Posting of open reservations
