What is the Gratnells system?

All the storage areas in a school have a

specially designed compatible set of four

trays, with furniture designed for them.

The furniture either takes the trays on

shelves (which restricts the depth of trays)

or with tray runners, so that any depth of

tray can be fitted.

Summary

By standardising the trays throughout the

schools, it is easy to tender.

Manufacturers can gear up specifications,

resulting in overall lower prices.

This has been proven in that all the UK’s 33,000

schools have used this standard width of trays

since 1960 (52 years).

The external width of the tray is 312mm x

427/433mm front to back.

Four depths: 75mm, 150mm, 225mm, and 300mm,

with all storage based around this standard width.
