Health is a state of complete Physical Social and mental

wellbeing.

Illness is the opposite of health.Illness and diseases change the functions of our bodies.

1. Health and healthy habits

Healthy habits : - A balanced diet. - Keeping a meal routine. - Enough rest. - Breathing clean air. - Physical exercise

Infectious diseases. These types of diseases can be: - Contagious. An ill person can transmit it

to a healthy one. - Non-contagious. An ill person cannot

transmit it to another person. Tetanus, salmonellosis, etc.

Non-infectious diseases. These have causes, like: injuries, an imbalanced diet, taking in

toxic substances, etc.

Types of diseases

Pathogens are harmful and cause diseases.

Some of most common diseases caused by pathogens

are: - Bronchitis: it affects the

respiratory system.

2. Microorganisms that cause diseases

Salmonellosis: it affects thedigestivesystem.

Bacterial meningitis: it affects the nervous system. Its symptoms are a high fever, stiff neck and severe headaches.

-Unicellular pathogenic

microorganisms:

amoebas, plasmodia

which cause malaria or Candida.

Other harmful microorganisms:

-Multicellular pathogenic

microorganisms. Barefoot in

damp places like swimming

pools.

Viruses

A virus is not a living thing,

but it needs living cells to carry out its

life processes.Viruses cause

many diseases like

the flu, herpes, some

types or hepatitis and

AIDS.

3. PREVENTING AND

TREATING INFECTIOUS DISEASES

Disinfect

wounds

Wash your hands before eating

Avoid sharing drinking and eating utensils

Avoid walking barefoor in swimming pools and changing rooms

Vaccines help our bodies react against infections

Vaccines

Infections caused by

bacteria are treated

with antibiotics

that destroy them.

Treatment of

2. Infections caused by

fungi are treated with

antifungal medicines

that remove them.

3. Infections caused by viruses cannot be treated

with antibiotics. We can only

treat them with medications that help reduce symptoms.
