Tutorial

Welcome to EBSCO’s Science Reference Center (SCIRC) tutorial. Science Reference Center contains full

text for hundreds of science encyclopedias, reference books, periodicals, and other sources. In this tutorial,

we will look at conducting a search from the Basic Search screen, as well as the browsing options available

in Science Reference Center.

We’ll begin by conducting a search in Science Reference Center from the Basic Search screen. Enter

your terms in the Find field and click Search.

A result list is displayed. You can filter your results by subject in the column on the left. Click on a Full Text

link to view the full text of the article or click on an article title to view the Detailed Record for the article. If

there are related images or video available, they can be found in the right column.

On the Detailed Record page, you can view all of the detailed information about the article. Click the

full text link to read the article. You can also Print, E-mail, Save, Cite, or Export an article by clicking

the corresponding icons.

Basic Search also features two browsing options. You can Browse by Category, or Browse Popular

Sources. To Browse by Category, select a category from the Basic Search Screen.

A list of topics for your chosen category is displayed. Select a topic from the list.

A list of articles related to your chosen topic is displayed. Click on a full text link to read an article.

Returning to the Basic Search screen, use the left and right arrows to browse through the available Popular

Sources. Click on a title to view a source in the PDF Full Text Viewer.

When available, you can also view an article in HTML format by clicking the HTML Full Text link in the

Viewer.

The Reference Shelf area on the Home screen includes resources to assist with your research. Click a

link to access the Dictionary, Science Experiments, information on citing sources, the research guide, or

the curriculum standards module.

When you click the Science Experiments link, a result list of available science experiments is displayed.

Click on the Help link to view the complete online help manual.
