Change in the ASF epidemiology since the SGE1 (Minsk, December 1-2 2015)

Wild boars

Summary of 2014:

- 4532 wild boar tested to ASF

- 217 wild boar positive to ASF (178 found dead, 39 hunted)

Current situation – since the beginning of 2015

- 1053 wild boar tested to ASF

- 39 wild boar positive to ASF (33 found dead, 6 hunted)

Last outbreak in domestic pigs registered in 17th September, 2014

Revised policies / strategies for ASF control in wild boar following the SGE1 (Minsk, December 1-2 2015)

Hunting practices: - In general, no changes in hunting practices since last meeting - Driven hunting is prohibited in ASF affected areas - Driven hunting in free areas is prolonged till March 1, 2015

Winter feeding: Restrictions set by the Cabinet of Ministers (No.745) are in place since December 10, 2014:

- Feeding directly on the ground is prohibited - Use of feeders with dosage option only - Restrictions on the amount of feed– 400 l to 1000 ha

Categorization and biosecurity requirements for pig farms

In a context of biosecurity 3 categories of pig farms are defined:

- Commercial farms - Non-commercial farms (including backyards) - Outdoor keeping farms

Biosecurity requirements are set by the Cabinet of ministers No.621 (23.07.2014.) - Different requirements are set for commercial and

non-commercial pig farms - No compensation schemes in place at the moment linked to

biosecurity aspects

Biosecurity aspects in commercial farms Obligation to elaborate biosecurity plan:

- Adapted to farm activities/management – close or open cycle, etc.

- Food and Veterinary Service ensures regular controls in order

to check the status of implementation of biosecurity plan

- in 2015 each commercial farm will be inspected twice (entire country) - Specific controls are planned also in all small pig farms located in 10km radius arround commercial farms (entire country)

Biosecurity aspects in non-commercial holdings (including backyards)

No biosecurity plan, but:

- Obligation to implement biosecurity requrements as set by the legislation (specific Annex)

- Policy on preventive emptying of low biosecurity holdings – was in place July 23, 2014 – January 9, 2015 - As a result, in 2014 - 5923 pigs were slaughtered in 1633 holdings - compensations were paid to animal owners

- Planned inspections in 2015 – all farms twice in Part II and Part III, and

once in Part I and free areas (depending on capacity FVS)

Biosecurity aspects in free ranging holdings

In general, it is prohibited to keep pigs outdoors!!! Exception is set for the following categories: - wild boar (farmed game) kept in fenced territories - exotic pig species ( Mangalica pigs) Specific additional requirement – double fence!
