Mother Tongue Language Policy • The Mother Tongue Language

(MTL) policy requires all students (including foreign students) to offer MTL.

• MTL is an entry requirement to Junior Colleges & Local Universities.

Mother Tongue Languages at PSLE by MOE will continue to be exempted at O-Level.

For students who are exempted from MT in Primary schools, a copy of MTL Exemption Approval Letter is to be submitted to Form Teachers on Tuesday, 2nd Jan 2018.

Mother Tongue Language Policy • Students who offer MTL-in-lieu/

Foreign Languages (French/German/Japanese) or Thai/Burmese at Primary Schools are NOT exempted from Mother Tongue Languages.

• They are to continue taking the subject and sit for the exam at GCE O-level.

Mother Tongue Language Policy For students who offer MTL-in-lieu/ Foreign Languages (French/German/Japanese) or Thai/Burmese, & Non-Tamil Indian Languages: • Copy of Approval Letter in Primary School is

to be submitted to Form Teachers on Tuesday, 2 Jan 2018

• Collect Form 5 – FL (Foreign Languages) or Form 3-NTIL (Non-Tamil Indian Languages) from Form Teachers to reapply.

• Submit Form 5 – FL or Form 3 – NTIL with the required documents by Monday, 8 Jan 2018 to Form teachers.

• Upon approval, students can apply to study at their own language schools.

Mother Tongue Language Policy Foreign Languages/Non-Tamil Indian Languages: • For Foreign Languages/NTIL, only marks

provided by MOELC will be recorded and used for promotion purposes.

• Students who offer Foreign Languages in lieu of Mother Tongue Language are to study on their own. No marks will be recorded and used for promotion purposes. However, students are required to sit for the exam at GCE O-level.
