Waldner reccomends the use of our own designed and developed Airflow Technology: AC3
Airflow Controllers, although we are capable of integrating other airflow controllers from the
market. Our Airflow Controllers have been used for thousands of customers all over the world in
the last 25 years. The majority have been installed in Europe where we have a large market
share, with a well known and tested system used by some of the most reputable
Pharmaceutical Companies that are based in both Europe and the US.
Another interesting feature is the automatic sash opening/closing system. With a very slight
touch, the user can easily manipulate the whole sash, thanks to a motorized sash system. This
system will permit the user to move the sash even if they are carrying something in both of their
hands.
Our vertial sash also has horizontal sash sections, so that the user can open just the right space
to insert their arm in the fumehood, keeping their body protected with the rest of the sash.
Installing the services along the
whole length of the fume hood
allows a more convenient
positioning of the handles
according to the user’s
preferences. The outlets are
located closer to the point of
use, rather than on the sides of
the fume hood. This results in an
easier cleaning scenario and a
less risky way of handling
elements inside the fume hood.
Example of the user
working with the sash
closed in the vertical
position, but

the horizontal sash.

The sash design, involving counterweights and a toothed cable system, allow a very soft and
smooth manipulation of the sash. A feature that all of our customers appreciate from Waldner
Fumehoods.
Whenever a sash stopper must be used, Waldner has designed a simple integrated system to
overpass the standard sash opening height. The user must consciously press two latches
together with one hand in order to set the sash stopper.
Waldner has developed a Sash Controlling device, so a zone presence system can detect if there
is no user working in front of the fumehood. The motorized sash then closes automatically, enclosing
the equipment inside and eliminating the potential for any accidents, thus increasing the safety of
the lab. Moreover, since the sash closes down, the controlling valve will also adapt the airflow to

indicating to the user that the
conditions may not be safe.

the minimum necessary, obtaining energy savings as well as ergonomics aspects since the noise
level will also be minimized.
Since it is possible that the user might leave some parts of the equipment sticking out beyond the
fume hood sash, Waldner includes a horizontal photoelectric barrier. This Sash Detector will detect
any element in the way of the vertical movement of the sash, stopping a few inches above, and
thus, avoiding any possible incidents.
The touch controlling panel on one side of the fumehood is totally
integrated in the profile, very easy to clean, and with all necessary
functions a user may need. Waldner believes that the users should not
have to read difficult operating manuals to work in a fumehood.
Therefore, the controlling panel has been designed to offer the relevant
safety information with a color coding system in coordination with a
sound pattern, depending on the type of incident that is occurring.
Drip cups are
integrated into the
back panel, so they do
not interfere with the
working space, nor the
airflows. Each drip cup

All of our fumehoods can be delivered pre-assembled from the factory in two different parts
(bottom + top). This is a clear advantage of setting up on site, installing the bottom part first with all
the integrated services, so that the different specialists can install all of the services with barely any
barriers. This not only increases the quickness of the fitting, but also the quality of the whole
installation itself. All leakage tests can be performed quickly and any potential problems will be
solved immedietaly.
Since both parts of the fumehood can be delivered pre-assembled, after the bottom part has
been installed and connected, the fitters will then place the superstructure on top. This can be
done in less than 10 minutes!
This photo shows the
bottom parts already
installed and ready to
support the top parts.

This same sequence can be reversed in the future, in case a change in the layout of the lab must
be done. Again, this saves on operating costs, as the timing will be minimized to less than half-an-
hour.
SECUFLOW TECHNOLOGY
Supplying air in a certain and controlled manner reduces the turbulences generated by friction on
the sides of the fume hood and on the worktop, achieving a smooth flow pattern of the air that
gently increases the air containment of the fumehood. Waldner is a leading manufacturer in this
technology that has been changing the design of labs for more than 10 years.
SECUFLOW Page 9
It is important to add that the Secuflow technology can run at 40/60/80/100 fpm. It is a matter of
our customers preference to determine the right relationship that they may feel more comfortable
to work with. At any speed, Secuflow will have no competitor regarding user safety!
We strongly believe that managing the air correctly, with airflow tests passed both at the factory
and on site, gives us the edge in the present and in the future way of designing labs. Not simply
compromising on the safety of the users, but increasing it.
SECUFLOW, an auxiliary air system that enhances the performance of the fumehood containment,
allowing a more efficient way of using energy in terms of air.

- The effect of the Secuflow is to push back all the vapors as soon as they are produced. This
creates an air barrier about 6” inside of the working area of the fume hood. This air barrier is
typically created when the outside airflow of the Secuflow hits the inside air trying to come out
of the fumehood. Since the barrier is pushed back, the containment increases drastically, not
being affected by backdrafts generated in the lab by people passing by or inefficient supply
air systems.
SECUFLOW Page 10
- All this technology has been certified and tested not only at the factory but also on site. For
more than 10 years now in many top class labs around the world with very demanding
customers from a health and safety perspective.
- Secuflow used along a VAV system takes labs to the greatest levels in safety and energy
performance that have ever been seen.
Zone Presence Sensor
So the Lab can achieve the most efficient degree of performance, a sash controller device must
be included in the fumehoods. This sash controller, or Zone Presence Sensor, will maintain that the
sash is closed as long as no user is working at the fumehood. This means that this simple device will
allow one to technically design the ventilation plant in a very efficient way, increasing the
simultaneity factor, converting the lab to an “on demand” type of system, using just the right
amount of energy at any particular point in time.
As explained before, this solution comes along with a horizontal photoelectric barrier to stop the
closing of the sash in case there is any element sticking out of the face of the sash.
The sash controller adds an extra safety feature, since maintaining that the sash is closed most of the
time means that, in case of an accident, the explosion or whatever it may happen inside will stay
contained, protecting the users in the lab.
