Benefit of Standards

Business information is organized according to a specific format, set by both trading partners, allowing a “hands-off” computer transaction that requires no human intervention or re-keying on either end.
Most of the data is the same as is in a traditional paper document.
Standards are designed to work across company boundaries, with updates and changes made by consensus, reflecting the needs of the industry, rather than those of a single organization.
Organizations have adopted e-commerce standards for the same reasons they embraced much of today’s modern technology; for enhanced efficiency and increased profits.

Electrical Channel Marketing Attribute Schema

A Web Store Hierarchy is designed to direct customers to the desired product.
Hierarchy: “any system of persons or things ranked one above another.”
Hierarchy and Taxonomy are often used interchangeably.
Taxonomy: “the science or technique of classification”
An Attribute Schema identifies the information applicable to products, plus associated definitions and rules to standardize that information.
Attribute: “something attributed as belonging to a person, thing, group, etc.; a quality, character, characteristic, or property”
Schema: “an underlying organizational pattern or structure; conceptual framework.”

Regardless of the hierarchy used by different distributors, the products require the same
attributes.
