“Dedicated to the Irish & Irish at Heart all around the World St. Patrick's Day”

“St. Patrick's Day is a yearly holiday celebrated on 17 March by the Irish and Irish at Heart in big cities and small towns alike with parades, "wearing of the green," music and songs, Irish food and drink, and activities for kids such as crafts, coloring and games. It’s a time for fun. The event is named after Saint Patrick, the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of Ireland. The History of St. Patrick's Day”

“The factual information about Saint Patrick’s life and times is quite vague. He was born in Roman Britain in the fifth century, into a wealthy Romano-British family. Saint Patrick’s father was a deacon in the Church. At the age of sixteen he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken captive to Ireland as a slave. After six years of slavery he escaped to the Irish coast and fled home to Britain. Upon returning, he quickly joined the Church in Auxerre in Gaul and studied to be a priest.”

“In 432, he decided to return to Ireland after dreaming that the voices of the Irish people were calling him, though as a bishop, to save the Irish. Irish folklore tells that one of his teaching methods included using the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity (the father, the son, and the Holy Spirit) to the Irish people. After nearly thirty years of teaching and spreading God's word he died on March 17, which is the day St. Patrick's Day is celebrated each year.”

“Wearing of green Originally the color associated with Saint Patrick was blue however over the years the color green and its association with Saint Patrick's day grew. Green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration of St Patrick's Day as early as the 17th century. He is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pre-Christian Irish, and the wearing and display of shamrocks and shamrock-inspired designs have become a ubiquitous feature of the day.”

“In Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day, people traditionally wear a small bunch of shamrocks on their jackets or caps. Children wear orange, white and green badges, and women and girls wear green ribbons in their hair.”
