Anti slavery convention The anti slavery convention of 1840

sparked a fire in women after Lucrettia Mott was denied entry into the convention after being selected as a representative because she was a woman.

Born in Massachusetts Quaker Minister Hated slavery and made anti slavery

speeches She was selected as a representative for

the anti-slavery convention of 1840, but wasn’t allowed to attend because she was a female.

Elizabeth Stanton

Born in Johnstown, New York in 1815 Had 11 brothers and sisters Well educated Even though she was well educated she

wasn’t accepted into a college because she was a woman. Her brother was accepted even though she was smarter.

Declaration of Sentiments This convention led to the signing of the

Declaration of Sentiments. 100 of the 300 people in attendance signed this document.

Gave women more rights in everyday life. It changed a part of the Declaration of

Independence. The Declaration said that all men are created equal. The Declaration of Sentiments says that all men and women are created equal.
