• As you know, many kids enjoy sitting around and getting things handed to them. Well we are here to make a difference in how kids can have fun while staying fit!

The Problem

The graph below shows the transition from a healthy child into an obese adult.

Why Childhood Obesity?• For our senior project, we decided to

research the dilemma of childhood obesity. As statistics show, obesity is a major increasing concern in the world affecting the lives of many, especially children.

• Being able to take time to teach elementary PE classes about making healthy choices and staying fit, helps impact a successful future.

How Does Child Obesity Start?

• Lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating habits.

• Eating more at fast food places,restaurants,and drinking more sugar loaded drinks.

• Not enough physical activity.– 10% of children are completely inactive.

Risks and Complications that Eventually Occur

• Long-term risks and complications include: – High cholesterol– Hypertension– Respiratory ailments – Orthopedic problems – Depression– Type 2 diabetes as a youth

Final Result Impacted on Children

• The kids now understand that being healthy and taking care of themselves is a very significant feature in life.

• They now have knowledge of what is healthy and what is not and how to workout while having fun.

Jump Rope for Heart“ It takes a heart to be a hero.”

• This is a fundraising event for children distributed through many different school districts in effort to raise money for children with heart conditions.

• During our week of volunteering, the Jump Rope for Heart program came to Mount Pleasant Elementary schools, allowing us to take part in the life changing fundraiser.
