BLED CASTLE Above the idyllic lake stands the Castle of

Bled, giving the environment almost a hairy character.

In the distant past, people were afraid of it, while today it is one of the most unforgettable tourist places in Slovenia.

According to the available sources, the Castle of Bled is among the oldest in the country.

From the castle hill, a great wiew is afforded over the lake with its island, and the rocky mountains in the background.

In the castle it's also a small but interesting museum.

LAKE BLED It has been there for around 14000 years. Kayaking, canoeing, boating, sailing and

surfing on the lake are very popular in the summer.

A special atmosphere at Bled is in winter. The icy surface of the frozen lake is soon

full of skaters and promenaders, who truly enjoy in the fairy wintry landscape.

BLED ISLAND It's covered with greenery and there are a

few buildings. A church tower is rising from them and it

seems like a little town floating in the middle of the lake.

According to a folk tale, it was created by fairies to perform in tranquillity their fairy dances on it.

Today tourists like to travel to the island by the traditional boats called pletnas.

Then they ascend the 99 stone steps and eventually ring the church's bell, which is believed to fulfill even the most unattainable wishes.

A local tradition at weddings is for the husband to carry his new bride up these steps, during which the bride must remain silent.

Human traces from prehistory have been found on the island. Before the church was built, there was a temple consecrated to Živa, the Slavic goddess of love and fertility.

Today, Bled is known not only as a health resort but also for its congress tourism, for it has become a centre of the most famous international and domestic professional, sports and cultural meetings and manifestations.

IGLICA WATERFALL 4 km southwest of

Bled, you can visit Iglica Waterfall.

It's an 18m high, but very narrow waterfall over a vertical wall of Permian limestone.

It's very popular for rock climbing.

BABJI ZOB It’s near to the Iglica

waterfall. 300m cave system

includes rare helictites.

It's very different from the other caves in Slovenia.

KREMŠNITA Another symbol of Bled is a cream cake

called KREMŠNITA. The recipe was brought to the local Hotel

Park in 1953 and since then it's been one of the most popular desserts.
