Chaos and Courage
Chaos and Courage is a 6 episode series that will be broadcast on APTN in 2013. The series is about ab-original, female frontline emergency workers. They are the police, firefighters, ambulance, search & rescue and critical incident women who protect the communities they serve. They’re not just emergen-
cy workers, they are mothers, wives, mentors and role mod-els. They are all women with big hearts, car-ing about and protecting the people of the communities they live in and do they have stories to tell. The programs are entertaining, informative and in some cases, funny or sad. It all makes for some very enjoyable viewing.

The HUBSamson Cree Nation has adopted a system that is designed to collectively support at risk community members. Every department, service and program from Education to the RCMP, including outside agen-cies, such as probations, Maskwacis Counseling and Young Spirit Winds has been invited to join this team to work together for the health and benefit of our community. The HUB is currently an active system in Prince Albert, SK and the crime rates within their communities have dropped considerably since the HUB has been ac-tive. Managers, Directors and Council members from Samson Cree Nation have traveled to Prince Albert, SK to witness the HUB in action and have brought the principals back to administer within Samson Cree Nation with the hopes of spreading into a 4 Nations initiative. The principals of the HUB begin with breaking down the silos that each department, program and service has become so accustomed to working within. How
it works is, when a concern is brought to the HUB each representative at the table shares resources and information to effectively redirect towards a suitable conclusion. For example, if a teacher notices that a particular stu-dent is behaving out of the norm for his or her char-acter and may be absent more than usual, the repre-sentative from education would bring this concern to the HUB. From there other representatives of the HUB team may have more information to share that would lead to an effective action plan that is in the best interest of the student. The student is then put into the HUB database and a follow up is done down the road to ensure the student received the neces-sary assistance. This process can be applied to any concern within the community from education, to housing, to socio-economic. It is time we work together for the bet-terment of our people. The HUB is expected to be implemented in Samson this month.

Letter from the editor...On behalf of the Sam-son Cree Nation Chief and Council I would like to send best wish-es to all the students in their academics for the 2012-2013 school
year. With a new school year in full swing it is an ex-citing time for teachers, parents and students. Aside from catching up with friends the new school years brings opportunity to make new friends, gain more knowledge and opens doors to excel both inside and out of the classroom. The possibilities for what you can accomplish are endless!
This also means that school buses are back on the road on a regular basis. Please share the road as the passengers on those buses are our children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Remember a bus has a designated speed of 90 km/h on the highway, 80 km/h on rural roads and makes frequent stops. Also, as members of this community your opinions matter. So if you have an opinion about a community matter or have facts and insights to share please feel free to write a letter to the editor. I am looking forward to opening the discussion and hearing your opinions.
