THE BEATLES

How did “The Beatles” become a rock band?

It started with John Lennon he wanted to start a band. He decided to call it Quarrymen in March 1957.

Later he was introduced to the Paul McCartney and he joined the band on guitar and vocals . George Harrison joined the band as lead guitarist and then Pete Best joined as a drummer.

They got rid of Pete and hired Ringo Starr, because of his bad timing. Later on they made their first album and traveled around the world .

How did “The Beatles” get so famous?

During one of the worst winters in 1962 they made an appearance on the T-V show “Thank Your Lucky Stars”. This made them very famous so the “Royal University Show” came up with a story for them.

In 1960 they played in Hamburg. Their manager, Brian Epsein, gave them an audition for Decca Records. (The audition failed.)

In 1962 George Martin became their A&R manager and Pete Best was replaced with Ringo Starr. Their first single was “ Love Me Do” and it was issued October 5,1962.

It started when Brian Epsein died. Paul wanted to take his spot. They all had different ideas and Paul’s plan failed.

The members started growing apart from each other. At first John tried to get all the Beatles to come back, but they wouldn’t.

They decided to hire a new manager, but Klein couldn’t stop the fighting.

Why did they play Rock music?

In the 1950’s when they grew up, Liverpool was a sad and poor. When the sailors came back home from their journeys they brought back R&R records from the U.S.

Before “The Beatles” met they were crazy for singers like Elvis Presley. They also loved the lyrics to R&R music.

John was inspired by “Heartbreak Hotel”. He became a big fan of American rock music.
