What are your tips and tricks?
Best practices from the road• Ask questions • What are you trying to answer by giving your
presentation?– Sell something – an idea, a product, a service– Get approval to do something
Best practices from the road• Before you present check out the location where you are
presenting, for:– A projector and screen?– Microphone?
• Don’t scream – it hurts more than your voice and the audience will not hear you!
– Speakers?– Do you need cables to connect up?– Is everything working?
• Show up early and talk to your audience– Ask them why they are here and use the stories
More best practices from the road• Start with your last slide first
– You may never get to your last slide!• Practice, practice, practice
– Video tape yourself and watch it to improve• Educate yourself on your audience
– Ask yourself “What does my audience want to hear?”• Use a remote control (<$50 at any office store)• Never go below 18 point font
– You want your points to be legible
• Join Toastmasters – and go to the meetings• Put your PPT(x) on a USB memory stick
Use the tools of the trade• Use animations• Use video to make your point
– Brings the story home • Customer References• Key Partners
– Don’t forget speakers
• Use the latest PowerPoint tools• Use open source-royalty free graphics and video• Pay for someone to review your work
