Gangtok is an ideal destination who loves sightseeing and anything about the mountains; it is a
place far away from the hustle – bustle of the crowded city. It is quite calm and peaceful town; it
gives your eyes lavish and beautiful scenery. It is a capital of Sikkim , located at an elevation of
1650 meter above from the sea level, in the eastern Himalayan range. It has a treasure of glaciers,
mountains, with lush green meadows.There are many places to visit, but you should start with
Khangchendzonga National Park , it gets its name from the mountain Khangchenjunga, which is
8586 meters tall and a third highest peak in the world.
There are many glaciers in the park, including the
Zemu glacier, the total area of the park is 849.5 km sq.
It is a home of flora and fauna. Park is also providing a
trekking for you that are the most special activity of
the park. Lake Tsomgo is a glacial lake in East Sikkim,
about 40 km from the capital. It is also known as
Changu Lake , located at an elevation of 3753
meters. Its major attraction is that its surface reflects
different colours of the changing seasons.

The lake is surrounded by the steep mountains which are covered with snow during winter. The
lake remains frozen during the winter season, crossed by the Nathu la Pass on the north. The
Chinese border is pretty close to this lake with a small distance of only 5 kilometers, but is however
18 kilometers by road. Alpine forest covers the catchment of the lake. After the winters there are
the edges of the lake has scenic blooms of the flower species of rhododendrons, primulas, blue
and yellow poppies, irises and so forth. The major tourist attraction of the lake site is joy rides on
yaks and mules with a kiosk of the food and drinks on the side. There is also a Shiva Temple on the
bank of the lake.
Ganesh Tok View Point is situated on the
hilltop on Gangtok – Nathu La road, is a small,
attractive temple of Ganesh, it is located at an
altitude of about 6500 meters. It has an idol of
Lord Ganesh; it is so small that only one person
can crawl into the temple at a time. It offers you
most panoramic view from the hill top to Raj
Bhawan Complex, Smiriti van Gangtok town and
the magnificent Mount Kanchendzonga.
It is the most delightful place for your eyes and
soul away from the noisy city.

Tashi View Point is about 8 km from the city near Bakthang waterfall, you can hire a taxi. It offers
a sweeping view of Khangchenjunga snow peaks on a clear day. You can get an unforgettable
sunrise view, but only if you reach before 5 a.m., with a dazzling colour changing peaks. There are
stairs to climb up to the circular area from the road level. From there you will get an amazing view
of the mountains.
There are also some other places to visit like Saramsa Garden, Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary,
Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary which provides unseen flora and fauna. Whenever you visit to
Gangtok to explore its beauty you should hire the cable car from Deorali market, it will provide you
the immense beauty of its local markets and nature. You should also try some local cuisine like
momo, wai – wai, shah-phaley, etc.
