General Information

• KCUMB was founded in 1916 as the Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery

• Located in Downtown Kansas City• Total medical school enrollment: 1,011

Delta Chapter

• There are currently 109 members of the Delta Chapter

• Class of 2011: 34• Class of 2012: 44• Class of 2013: 31

• 45 of these members were inducted last year

Plans for Future Events

• Speakers– Board Examinations Overview• Many students have concerns and

questions about board examinations• Should an Osteopathic student sit for

the USMLE exam in addition to the COMLEX?• What should students do to begin

their board preparations?

Plans for Future Events

• Blood Drives–We will hold 4 blood drives this year,

working with both Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City and the American Red Cross

–We collected over 60 pints of blood at our first drive in August

• Adopt-A-Family– During the holiday season the Delta

Chapter will work with a local charity to adopt several families for the holidays

–Members will be able to purchase presents for the families and send the items to the families for the holidays

• Valentines Day Candy Grams– This year we will be working with

Cardiology Club to sell and distribute Candy Grams on Valentine’s day to students, faculty, and staff

– All money raised will be given to the American Heart Association

• National Osteopathic Medicine Week– The Delta Chapter is planning events

during National Osteopathic Medicine Week to help:• Increase the knowledge of the Osteopathic

philosophy• Teach the history of Osteopathic Medicine• Look to the future possibilities of

Osteopathic Medicine

• Fundraising– KCUMB water bottle sales– T-shirt sale– Breakfast and snack food sales on

Kaplan Board Review weekends

Scholarships

• Jan Oliveri Scholarship– Given to a first year that has gone

above and beyond the call of duty in community service, organizational involvement and leadership, as well as academics.

• Jeremy Bickling Scholarship– Recognizes the great efforts of a

teaching assistant or tutor.

2011 Induction

• First and second year students who are in the top 30% of their class are eligible to apply

• Members are chosen based on their degree of professionalism, scholarship, campus involvement, and service to the University and the profession

• A banquet will be held in March to induct the new members

ΣΣΦ - Delta ChapterWe are looking forward to the year ahead as we

continue to grow and become a more active organization at KCUMB. We are committed to

challenging ourselves academically, our service in the Kansas City community, and furthering the

Osteopathic Profession.
